Chapter 10

He shook his head. "I know how much the two of you love each other and Marian, you know how much I love you. How much I've always loved you." He said. "But I need to say something."

"Harry," Marian said trying to control her emotions.  "I'm sorry, it's the hormones. I'm too emotional." She tried to explain. "What.... what... did you wanna say?" her lips trembling.

He looked at the both of them and took a deep breath. "I love you, Marian. That is never going to change. And I know he's always going to be in your heart. He's never going to go away." He inhaled deeply. "One weekend a year. I'm willing to give you up for one weekend. 48 hours. If you want." He said quietly.

Her eyes widened.  "Seriously? Are you being serious?"   She looked at Louis with hopeful eyes. "What do you think? Would...Would you want to spend a weekend in a cabin or cottage alone with me?  If you don't want too, I get it. I wouldn't want to force your hand only if you want," she stuttered.  She looked back at Harry, still totally unbelieving what he was offering.

Harry looked at his wife. "When have I never been not serious about things when it comes to you," He said. "You know I would move the Earth for you if I could."

Louis looked at them. "Harry...I...I don't know what to say.  She's....she's your wife.  The woman you love more than anything.  I....."

"I pick the weekend," Harry said. "I don't care where you go or what you do, but after those 48 hours, you come home to me and our daughter," he said firmly.  He was fighting every emotion he had in his body and he didn't know if he was doing the right thing or not.  If it would totally backfire on him and he would lose her forever.  "And there is one place that you have to promise me you will never go to.  Ever!" he said. "It means too much to us....to me at least." He stammered.

"Montana," Marian said taking his hand in hers and squeezing it. "Harry, I....I promise." She said.  "I'm sorry I fell in love with both of you. And I'm being completely honest about that.  But one a little more than the other," she admitted and then sighed before looking back at Louis. "Monkey, say something.  I'm game if you are, do you still want me in your life? You haven't really given us an answer. Can we be together once a year?"

Harry held tight to her hand and buried his face in her chest. "I...I love you so much, Marian," he said unable to stop his tears.

Louis backed away from the bed and ran his fingers through his hair. "Harry...Why......" he began again. "I....I love her too."

"I know. I'd rather share her than lose her forever." Harry admitted.

Louis looked at Marian. "Can you live with that?" He asked. "But you have to promise you're always going to return to him. You belong to him too.  Marian, you have to promise me!  He....he can take better care of you than I can....He....Harry can make you happy too."

"Yes, as long as I never lose you again. I will be happy to return to Harry and my daughter." She said.Marian beamed.  "Monkey and Snowflake one weekend a year for the rest of our lives. Or until you get sick of me and don't show up," she said biting her lip. 

Louis walked over to Harry and hugged him tightly. "I don't know what to say," he said. "You are the most remarkable man I've ever known. I don't think you're real," he couldn't help but say.  "I'll....I'll never be able to thank you," he said so Marian couldn't hear him.

Harry hugged him back. "I'll give her anything to make her happy, Lou, but I can't let her go."

"I know," Louis said. He turned back to Marian and couldn't help but smile. "Once a year."

"Once a year," she smiled back forever and always. Then couldn't help but think she would definitely have more material for her books now. "Thank you, Harry," she said. "For everything.  You are the most unselfish person I know and I'm ready to be your baby mamma. I think Faith is finally ready to join us."  She said rubbing her belly. "I finally feel her moving.  I want the both of you to hammer out the details. Then, Louis, you can come pick me up when it's time or maybe we can meet somewhere or I'm thinking a place of our own.  A little getaway place."
