Chapter 7: 'Rescuse'

:T 'Aight, Here we hecking go.

Tene and I slipped through the shadows silently, The darkness hiding our movement as we made our way around the building the fight clearly happened behind.

Reaching out my shadows, I assessed my situation and my surroundings.

So that's who called me. . .

Some of Kate's destroyed 'puppets' were laying all crushed and burnt through out the street, Showing the signs of a dangerous battle.

I crouched down next to one of the burned corpses, Turning it over I checked to see if it was intact enough for Kate to still use it.

As soon as I turned it over it crumbled to ash that blew away on the light, Yet very cold breeze that was blowing between the towering sky scrapers around us.

''The Hero has fire powers, Be mindful of it'' I whispered quietly to the dark grey dragon currently perched in my shoulder, Standing guard as I examined the battle scene.

'Right.' He said curtly, His eyes snapping about as he scanned our surroundings.

 I could feel the weary tension rippling through him, I'd be lying if I said I didn't feel the same.

Sighing, I moved back to the shadows.

I felt the shadows ripple around me as they absorbed me, Leaving nothing but a dark outline as proof that I was there.

I continued to make my way carefully around the building, Remaining mindful of some of the still smoldering corpse puppets.

'This. This does not seem safe' Tene muttered, Swimming somewhere among the shadows around me.

You see, I can merge with my shadows however, When I'm in the shadows I can't see for shit.

'Corbin! There's a post in front of yo-' Tene started to warn before I slammed face first into a telephone post.

''Mother fuc-'' I started to swear as I crouched down, My head in my hands as my face stung.

I tightly closed my mouth however when I heard who I assumed to be the hero up ahead.

''Who said that?'' A familiar voice demanded from around the corner.

'Isn't that the fire girl from work?' Tene asked, Sounding annoyed.

 ''Sounds like it, What was her name again. . . Spark?'' I whispered back, Moving out of the mass of shadows at this point.

'I thought it was sear' Tene supplied as he leaped up onto my shoulder, Using me as a perch.

I sent my shadows out around me as I checked my mask one last time.

'Into the fire?' Tene asked, A hint of strain in his voice as he clearly held back laughter.

I rolled my eyes, Smiling slightly as I sent the shadows up to knock out the still working lights around the corner.

I'll get him back for that pun later

The sound of the lights cracking as the shadows within the light cover moved to knock the lights out.

''What the fuck!?'' the 'Sear' girl squealed, Sounding frightened and more than a little outraged.

''Language, We're supposed to be good role models, Shannon.'' Yet another familiar voice chided.

Huh. . . Can't place that voice. . .

For some reason, The salt and pepper haired man's face popped back into my head as I slipped back into my shadows, Sneaking around the corner.

The two heros had their backs turned towards me, A familiar mask wearing ginger haired girl was tied up between them with brightly glowing ropes.

Fuck, One of them has light based powers. . .

'Maybe. . . Maybe we can just leave Kate, I'm sure she'll be fine. . .' Tene said, Trying to excuse us abandoning our friend.

Sighing tiredly, I forced myself out of the shadows behind Sear, My eyes stinging slightly from the light of the ropes.

Without a second thought to how bad this plan is, I wrapped my shadows out and around Sear.

As soon as I did that I dragged the nearest shadows out towards me, Shielding me as the second hero spun around, Alerted to what was happening by Sear's muffled scream.

I backed up slightly, My shadows hiding my whole body in a writhing, Easily dispelled mass.

 My hostage was dragged along with me, Held behind me by shadows just enough that she was hard to see.

She was currently thrashing about in the shadows, Seemingly have forgotten that she had fire.

''I see. . . You must be backup than'' Mystery man said slowly, Eerily calm as he faced me, More ropes of light starting to appear as daggers of sorts around him.

I stepped back a bit more, My attention getting split between my hostage and the other hero.

 Gotta concentrate on just one of them. . .

Tightening my shadows around Sear's neck until I felt her go limp, I kept my eyes worriedly trained on the other hero.

His eyes seemed to widen behind his mask before narrowing, The dagger like light beams moving to surround me, Pointing towards where he must have assumed my neck was.

''Let her go, You don't want to do something you'll regret'' He said calmly, Slowly starting to approach me.

I started to back up slightly before I felt the shadows protecting and hiding my back start to disappear under the light with a slight sting.

''Let my friend go first.'' I answered, Freezing in place so they light would stop breaking through my defense.

I saw his lips,The only other part aside from his chin that I could see, form into a sympathetic smile.

''I'm afraid I can't do that kid, Just put down the hero okay?'' He asked again, Taking a step closer.

Narrowing my eyes I inhaled slowly as he took another step closer before holding his hand out towards me.

''Just surrender, We won't have to fight, We can get you help'' He said gently, His familiar voice still digging at my mind even as he spoke such annoying words.

Help? For what? 

I reached out slowly towards his hand, A kind and welcoming smile formed on the lower half of his face.

''Now Tene'' I hissed as I grabbed his hand, Tugging enough to knock him off balance enough to make him stumble.

My shadowy dragon leaped out of the shadows he had hid in, Biting into the flickering light ropes.

My mouth felt like it was on fire briefly before Tene bit through the rope, The glowing things shattering as soon as he did so.

''Wait-'' The light hero started to say as I quickly jumped back, The shadows wrapped around Sear moving to pick Kate up as I gathered a few more to lift me up to the nearest rooftop.

''Kate? Kate wake up, We gotta r-'' I started to say before the light level on the dark rooftop changed in a instant.

A tiny hiss of pain escaped me as the roof was flooded with painful light, The hero ascending to float above the rooftop, Glowingly bright bird wings spread out from his back like those of a archangel.

''Guess we're doing this the hard way than'' He whispered sadly as my shadowy armor was destroyed, Tene having to hide in my shirt least he also get killed.

This. . . This was a bad idea. . .

 Alllright, Rescue plan didn't go as well as Corbin wanted, Any guesses on how the fight's gonna go?
