Chapter 13: Stalker

I had managed to get away from the growing crowd fairly quickly thankfully.

My shoulders were as tense as a wire as I walked down the street.

I had passed my apartment by now, Hell, I was about a block from my apartment if I were to guess.

'He's still following us. . .' Eige grumbled quietly, I could feel the tension rippling off of my dragons as he spoke.

A little while after the little run in with the 'hero' I noticed someone was following me.

Thinking on the spot, I had walked right past my apartment, Not wanting whoever was following me to know where I lived.

'Maybe we should attack, We are pretty far from the busier part of the city' Tene pointed out, Surprisingly enough, Using logic instead of just plain old violence.

'For once I agree with him, For all we know this man could shoot us in the back while we're not looking' Eige added on.

'Why don't we just ask him to please stop following us?' Cali asked innocently, The smaller dragon trying to open the closed bag.

''Right. We'll have to interact I guess'' I whispered quietly as the other two kept Cali from climbing out of my bag.

With that in mind, I took a sharp turn down a complex ally way, As soon as I was out of sight I ducked back close to the wall, Reaching out to my shadows I pulled them forwards to make it harder to see me.

After a minuet of waiting the man who had been following us diligently for the past few hours entered.

Sure enough, The moonlight that just managed to light up the slums of our city glinted off of a metal gun resting at the stranger's hip.

Damn good guess Eige. . .

I slowly stepped out of the shadows as the man looked around, Clearly confused at my sudden disappearance.

''Looking for someone?'' I asked coldly, Making the man jump before spinning around to face me.

''Just some bait. . .'' The man answered, His voice slow and very raspy, As if he had smoked a pack of cigars every day of his life.

''Well, I haven't seen anyone who resembled bait lately'' I muttered back, Slowly starting to circle him as he tried to approach me.

A small chuckle came from the distracted man.

I concentrated on the shadows around us as we both kept circling, Preparing for the inevitable fight that would go down.

''As amusing as this little chat is'' The man pretty much growled out, ''It's time to end it'' He finished, Pulling the gun from it's 'hiding' spot and training it at my head.

'He must not have powers seeing as he's not using them' Tene whispered, Slight glee in his voice.

'That might not be true, He could just be trying to stay on the down low like us' Eige reminded, Ever the voice of reason.

 'Why's mr. gun man staring at us? He looks annoyed' Cali added in, Drawing my attention back to the 'Dangerous' man before me.

''Oh come on, I know your generation is eager to die and all but could you at least pretend to be slightly afraid?'' The man grumbled, Sounding slightly dismayed.

''Sorry, Were you monologuing?'' I asked, I had been told by other villains how annoying it can get to be ignored when monologuing.

Letting out a sigh, He lowered his gun slightly.

''No. I wasn't'' He muttered, We both fell silent as a tense feeling started to form between us.

''Do you. . . Want to?'' I asked slowly, Setting my bag down on the ground next to me.

He set his gun back in it 'Hiding' place, Honestly he needed to not put his gun in his waist band, So many things can go wrong.

''Great. . . Now I can't do it anymore'' He grumbled, Running his fingers through his raggedly cut hair.

Arching a eyebrow I slowly sat down, My back to the wall as the stranger sat down as well, His arm resting on his propped up knee.

''Considering I don't think I've seen you before I assume this whole attack thing is because of someone I know?'' I guessed, Gesturing towards him as I spoke.

He let out a bitter chuckle before nodding, ''Yeah. . . My. . . Target seemed slightly interested in you so I just thought. . .'' He started to say, His voice drifting off mid sentence.

''You'd hurt someone they might like so it'll hurt them in turn'' I finished for him.

Such a mindset wasn't new to me, A few villains I was fairly friendly with have even done this exact thing before, It wasn't really a novel Idea.

The man in front of me grimaced slightly, His hand moving up to hold at his head.

''Well when you put it that way I sound like a monster. . .'' He mumbled, Tiredly rubbing at his eyes.

'You are' Tene stated simply before I felt a small burst of pain at the back of my head as Eige smacked the greyish dragon upside his head.

''Depends, Did you have a reason to do so?'' I asked, Tilting my head to the side slightly.

''Would it make it any better if I did?'' He asked, Looking broken.

'Why are we still talking to him?' Tene asked, I considered answering the dragon before Eige took over for me.

 'He almost made a mistake that'd haunt him for his whole life, That is not someone who should be left alone directly afterwards, What if he tries to commit. . . You know. . .' Eige explained, Summing up the worry at the back of my mind in perfectly formed words.

''Probably not, However, It would be nice to know'' I reasoned, Grabbing my bag and holding it in my lap to try and ease my tense dragons.

He stared down at his hands for a moment before chuckling coldly, Holding up his arm to show a weird glowing band on his wrist.

''Do you know what this is?'' He asked quietly.

At the shake of my head a grim look took over his features, ''I hope you never have to wear one of these. . . It's a power blocker, As long as I'm stuck wearing this my powers are locked away'' He whispered.

A cold chill ran down my spine at the thought of my shadows being locked away from me.

''Why are you wearing it than?'' I asked, Dreading the answer.

What could he have done to deserve something like this?
