Corbin's just collecting strange men at this rate.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I was right.

My morning shift hit me like a fucking right hook that morning.

Even with two hours of sleep, coffee and a fuck ton of spite, I was dead on my feet for my entire shift, wishing for nothing more than my bed. . .And my boyfriend to squeeze.

Thankfully. . .My friends were kind enough to tolerate my terrible mood for about an hour or two without comment. . .Before spending the rest of my shift teasing and tormenting me.

'With friends like ours, who needs enemies' Eige muttered softly without any anger in his voice from inside my bag.

Much as they tease and torment me. . .I would one hundred percent do the same if our roles were reversed.

I have done the same when roles were reversed. . .This is probably deserved.

'Karma for that week Kate was sick' Tene tacked on. . .Which was a fair point, we did give her a hard time the week she was ill.

'This is a hundred percent the universe's revenge.' Eige agreed as I dodged around a group of people taking up the entire sidewalk as they chatted with each other.

''Regardless. Let's just get home, I miss Ian. . .And our bed'' I murmured softly to my dragons as I hurried across the street to my apartment building, ignoring the few glances I earned.

'What about Daxon? Miss him too?' Cali asked quietly, innocently from inside the bag as I started up the stairs.

A small. . .Unpleasant feeling flashed through me at the mention of the other man's name before I firmly squashed it down.

Still not dealing with those.

''I'm kind of also curious to see how Brion's handling what we found out last night'' I murmured as a small little head poked out of my bag, briefly causing my face to burn as Tene was exposed to a bit of minimal light.

The dragon was giving me a pointed look before I shoved him back down into my bag, refusing to deal with his judgement.

Unlocking my front door, I was greeted by the smell of something cooking on the stove, something damn good smelling.

Oh sweet Ian, cooking even after a day at work. . .He's an angel. . .

A small smile graced my face as I hung my bag up near the door, the tension from the day slowly sloughing off of me.

''I'm home love!'' I called out happily as my three little fuzz balls leapt out of my bag, scattering as soon as they reached the ground.

A much deeper chuckle than I expected came from the kitchen, making me frown slightly in confusion as one of my dragons started to quietly snicker.

''Welcome home sweetheart'' Daxon murmured warmly as I stepped into view of the kitchen, my gaze landing on our. . .Newest addition cooking at the stove instead of my flower.

I wasn't quite sure how I was supposed to respond to this. . .

Looking around, I frowned ever so slightly when I didn't see the blonde anywhere nearby.

''He's taking a nap, had a rough day at work'' Daxon explained, correctly reading my expression as my attention turned back to him.

Whatever he was cooking smelled really really good.

'Yeah, pretty sure that banana we ate for breakfast didn't do shit' Tene murmured as he skittered out from under one of the chairs he had scurried under.

''Brion is asleep in the bedroom as well. . .He had a tough time down at the station, having to Id Poisoned thought'' Daxon further explained as I slowly moved to sit down on one of bar stools.

'Perfect, I'm going to go sleep with our boyfriend, Cali you want to come along too?' Eige called out as all three of my dragons instantly abandoned me for our collective man.

Wow. Just wow.

''Corbin, I'd like to have a few words with you okay?'' Daxon interrupted my thoughts, his voice lowered to that tone, that gentle yet firm voice that made something in my chest flip.

Swallowing, I watched as the other man turned off the stove, pulling whatever he was cooking off of the burner and setting it on a hot pad to cool a bit as he turned to face me.

It was around then that I noticed his shirt sleeves were rolled up past his elbows, showing off his impressive forearms.

Not going to focus on his arms. . .Not going to do that.

''Sure. . .What do you want to talk about?'' I questioned, my voice wobbling slightly as the other man slowly walked around the counter, moving to lean next to me.

Smooth Corbin. Real smooth.

The other man's lips twitched slightly in a small, amused smile at my reaction, his gaze slowly looking me up and down for a long, breathless moment.

''Brion let me know about the little. . .'Incident' that happened last night'' Daxon started as I just froze, pursing my lips slightly as I tried to figure out if his tone was happy or if I needed to start apologizing.

''He did?'' I slowly questioned, coming to the conclusion that I would just have to hope the other man was happy with me.

''It doesn't escape my notice that you've rescued him twice now, once from that villian and now from himself, however. Next time, don't.'' Daxon continued, making my head snap up slightly at that, very confused.

Excuse you??

''You got lucky that he's destined to us, if he hadn't been, you could have ended up seriously hurt. Next time, wake me or call me okay?'' He requested, his voice low and firm, holding no room for argument. . .Yet also making my chest all fluttery.

I just stared at him for a long moment before finally speaking.

''You know I'm a villain right? I've faced people with powers that want to kill me ever since childhood. I'm not a stranger to being hurt'' I slowly pointed out as the other man moved closer to me, eventually having me caged in, his arms either side of me as I was cornered against the counter.

My heart was beating in my throat as the other man's hands moved down to my waist, resting on my hips as my. . .Boyfriend, leaned in even closer until our faces were mere inches apart.

''That's about to change. All of that. Is about to change. You're going to be much more careful about your life from here on out'' Daxon ordered firmly, his rough, calloused fingers dipping under my shirt to start rubbing at the soft skin on my sides.

I shivered slightly at the contact, my eyelids drifting closed as Daxon pressed his body even closer to mine, my body reacting quickly to the man's attention. . .Being sensitive.

Despite being more than happy to 'roll around a bit' with my boyfriend, I really wasn't that used to others giving me physical attention.

The other man pulled me closer until I was leaning fully on him as Daxon gently scratched at my back, blunt nails dragging over sensitive skin as I very slowly relaxed under the other man's attention.

''Maybe you could get away with being reckless with your life before, but you've got people who care about you now, while I don't know about Ian, I know for a fact that I will be more than willing to force you to be safe should I find you've been putting your life at risk again.'' He firmly murmured above me as a hand moved up to my head to start gently scratching at my scalp as well.

Under his gentle ministration, I almost didn't catch the warning in his tone.

Almost.
