Chapter 29: Free?

I stared down at the burning building, My hands on my hips.

'Ah, A perfect mission' I heard Eige sigh happily before Tene let out a bitter laugh.

'Perfect? Corbin got fucking stabbed in his arm! How was this a perfect mission?' Tene demanded, Making me sigh.

I glanced down at the two dragons who were currently hiding from the light put off by the surprisingly bright flames.

I had indeed been stabbed, I had made sure however to completely cover it with shadows to stop myself from bleeding out.

I'll have to go to the hospital eventually. . .

'Everything is and was perfectly under control' Eige said before Tene interrupted him.

'The building is on fucking fire! It wasn't supposed to be set on fire!' Tene retorted, Rather loudly.

Tene wasn't wrong, Our mission was to cause a distraction.

A while after Ian and I went our different ways, I got a sos text from Ian.

Something about a hero having found out about his powers and him needing me to and I quote, 'Please set off an alarm or something to make him have to leave'.

So my dragons and I hurriedly checked out different buildings in an attempt to find some bad people as quickly as we could.

We managed to find an old abandoned building that had an animal fight club inside.

My dragons let the animals out as I kept the people inside at bay.

I tried to get them all out without anyone getting hurt, However, A few show at me, The bullets hit one of the metal light fixtures causing sparks which caught the straw the animal fight club set down on the ground on fire.

Next thing I knew, The old and very messy building was ablaze.

'Everything. Is perfectly. Under. Control.' Eige stated firmly again.

'That dude down there is on fire!' Tene pointed out before I felt a sharp sting of pain as Eige slapped Tene.

'Everything's.' Eige started firmly, 'Under.' Eige continued, 'Control.'.

Sighing, I moved between the two dragons before they could continue their argument.

'Ian!' Cali cheered happily, Drawing everyone attention before anything could be done about the bickering.

Sure enough, Said boy nervously approached the burning building, Following a far more confident. . .Golden.

Huh. . .So that's who caught him. . .

Frowning, I moved back into the shadows further, Watching on.

Golden flew down to the burning building on giant glowing wings of light.

I pulled shadows forwards around my dragons and I to hide us as Golden used his light to put out the fire on a few of the men.

I noticed Ian slowly backing away from everything, Trying to hide in the shadows as he did so.

I held back a small laugh at that, His strawberry blonde hair, Paler skin and icy blue eyes just made him easier to spot in the shadows.

'That could actually just be because we can see in the dark' Eige pointed out quietly as I moved over to the edge of the roof.

'Ian!' Cali cheered again happily, Instantly leaping off of my arm to plummet down to the boy below without a thought as soon as I made it to the edge.

'That kid's gonna be the death of us.' Tene grumbled out but still followed suit, Floating down as Ian caught Cali, His eyes widening as he looked up to me.

''Corbin?'' Ian whispered quietly as I summoned the shadows beside the building, Using them to slowly lower me down to the ground.

''Hey there, Didn't know cuties like you hang around these parts'' I teased, Keeping my voice at a whisper as Eige stood lookout for us.

Ian let out a nervous laugh, Shaking his head slightly as he did so.

''Really? You're joking around at a time like this?'' Ian asked quietly, Amusement in his voice as he took a step closer to me, Still holding a happily purring Cali.

''Figured I should at least do a pickup line before randomly kidnapping you into the dark'' I said, Only partly serious.

I was feeling slightly queasy with every movement of my arm and I really just wanted to go back home and hop myself up on so many pain pills until I can't tell up from down.

'That is not a good game plan.' Eige called down to me, Disapproval clear in his voice.

''Hey. . .I thought the whole 'Kidnapping into the dark' was a great game plan'' Ian whispered, Having not heard my internal wish.

I smiled, About to explain what he missed when Tene came swooping back towards us.

'Okay enough of this cutesy shit, The hero's got the fire out, We gotta get the hell out of here' He hissed, Landing on my head as he spoke.

''Ready to go?'' I asked, Nervously looping my good arm around Ian's waist as I asked the single question.

''Uh. . .We'll find out!'' He whispered back as I pulled shadows around both of us until we were cloaked in them.

I furrowed my eyebrows, Needing a lot of concentration to lift us up by the shadows.

I could feel pressure pushing down on my ribs, Yet I managed to lift us up onto the roof.

I had picked this building to hide on thanks to the fact it had an old abandoned greenhouse on the roof.

Ian and I slipped inside, Moving to hide amongst the heavily overgrown plants as I sent my shadows back to their places, My dragons moving to hide with us amongst the plants.

With the slowly descending silence, I could faintly hear the quiet sounds of voices from the people and most likely the hero as well.

Wonder how long it's gonna be before we can get free. . .

'Oh! Flower!' Cali chirped, Instantly leaving his hiding spot to go pick a dandelion.

I watched on as he carried the 'flower' over to Ian.

He dropped it in the other boy's hand before turning back.

'Oh! Another flower!' He chirped, Going to go and grab another dandelion.

I winced slightly as I settled down, Prepared to wait this out as Cali entertained himself with bringing Ian all the 'flowers' he could find on the overgrown floor.

Ian for his part looked amused, If a tiny bit uncomfortable.

Well. . .There are worse ways to spend an evening. . .
