Chapter 76: Surprise

Ian's Pov~

My head felt all fully and  foggy when I woke up, The last few hours a blur to me.

Wasn't I at home? Why am I in a different bed now?

The room I was in smelled of antiseptics and the harsh chemical smell of industrial cleaners, There was a fairly loud beeping sound accompanying the harsh smells.

Something soft and slightly cool to the touch was resting up against my neck.

My whole body felt like it was being weighed down with lead weights or something.

I'm not used to feeling like this. . .

Reaching out to the nearby plants, I slowly gathered enough energy and willpower to actually open my eyes.

Looking up, I was greeted with the bright florescent lights that are typical in hospitals.

Oh I'm in a hospital. . .Well that's not so bad I guess. . .Just wonder what happened

''Ian? You're awake?'' A familiar, Tired voice questioned.

Turning my head slightly, I gave Corbin a small smile.

''How're you feeling? Do you need some water?'' He questioned worriedly, Getting up from the hospital chair directly next to my bed which he had been sitting in.

Now that he mentioned it, My mouth was very dry and scratchy.

I nodded, Giving him a grateful smile when Corbin rushed to pour a glass of water for me before returning to my side.

''Here, You're going to need to sit up a bit okay?'' The black haired man murmured, Gently helping me sit up before offering me the glass of water.

I let out a relieved sigh after quenching my thirst, Giving my boyfriend a tired smile.

''Thank you'' I rasped out, Reaching out to hold his hand as he sat down beside me again.

Cali was the cold and furry thing curled up against my side, Who had now moved to sprawl out across my belly.

'Corbi! Make Ian lay back down, Docy said he should rest!' The little dragon chirped out, Flopping down on me a bit more, As if attempting to pin me down to the bed.

''Cali, Dr. Smith told us not to wake him up, She didn't tell us to force him to sleep if he wakes up'' Corbin sighed out, The tone of his voice implying he's gone over things like this multiple times while I have been out cold.

''Have I been out for long?'' I questioned, Rubbing at my eyes while I spoke.

Boy I feel tired still. . .

''About a day and a half.  All things considered, According to doctor smith you're doing pretty well. . .Considering what you had in your system'' My sweet, Gloomy boyfriend informed me.

Pausing, I stared up at the other man.

I couldn't see his eyes through his sunglasses, But based upon how he was holding himself, He was exhausted.

''Were you awake the entire time?'' I questioned, Hoping he'd say no.

I don't want to be the cause of his exhaustion. . .

''Of course I was, I just wasn't too tired, Slept a lot when I was hurt'' He stated dismissively just as one of his other dragons poked his head out of the bag sitting on the ground beside the chair.

'Dip shit here has been worried that you'd suddenly just flatline if he shut his eyes for a second so he's been wired with worried energy this entire time' Tene informed me curtly, Instantly being shoved back into the bag by a disgruntled Corbin.

''Anyways. Do you need anything? Some food? A bit of fresh air? I can open a window. . .Do you want me to bring you some plants?'' My sweet, Sweet boyfriend offered, Clearly trying to help.

I gave him a small smile, Doing my best to give him my best pleading eyes.

''I wouldn't complain about a kiss'' I requested, Batting my eyelashes at him.

He grinned and his head, A fond smile on his face.

''Whatever will help you feel better'' He answered back, Sounding far from put upon.

I gave him a happy smile as he leaned down to gently placed a chaste kiss on my lips.

His hands gently held onto my head with such care while he kissed me, As if he were afraid I'd shatter with one wrong move.

''I am so glad I have you'' He murmured when he pulled back, A note of relief in his voice.

''Hey, Don't think you're getting rid of me that easily'' I whispered back teasingly, My smile growing when he shook his head slowly, Fighting a smile of his own.

Before he could respond, We were both interrupted by someone clearing their throat.

Daxon stood in the doorway, An eyebrow arched as he stared at the two of us.

''Glad to see you up, How are you feeling?'' He questioned in his slightly raspy voice as he made his way over to Corbin and I.

I was about to respond when I realized, Cali was out in the open, In plain sight.

My eyes widened before I quickly covered the dragon with a blanket.

'Hey! What going on!' Cali chirped out in a panic, Speaking in somewhat broken English in his panicked state.

''Ian, Sweetheart will you please let my dragon out of the blankets before he suffocates?'' Corbin requested, Shocking me into silence at how unafraid he suddenly was of someone else finding out about his powers.

''I already know Ian, It would have been rather hard not to find out when your boyfriend rescued you with his powers'' Daxon informed me in the gentle tone he always used with panicked civilians.

For some reason, I couldn't quite wrap my brain around that.

My head felt a bit foggy for some reason.

Still, I let Cali out, Who instantly proceeded to jump up onto my shoulder, Far away from the blankets but still out of the line of light from the ceiling lights.

The ceiling lights. . .Wait this room is bright. . .Corbin and his dragons are bound to be in pain with this much light. . .Why is he still here then?

''Ian, Whatever you're thinking of please stop, At least for now'' Daxon murmured, Moving over to sit next to me on the bed as Corbin did the same on my other side.

''Babe, You're supposed to be resting, Not stressing out, If something needs done I can do it for you, Just say the word'' Corbin added on, Gently placing a hand on top of mine.

I looked between the two men on either side of me, My pounding heartbeat calming down.

Guess I missed out on a lot while I was out. . .I'm going to have a lot of questions to ask once my head feels a bit less. . .Like jello. . .
