The morning passed slowly, the storm steadily beginning to pick up as he went about his routine. Coffee, music, reading with his finger, and then more coffee, forcing food down his throat, and peeking out the window.
Each time he glanced out the window, he would see the large wolf lying against the wood of his porch, chest hitching with each shallow breath, and body unnervingly still.
Anytime Yoongi tried to sneak outside to check on Cujo, the canine was to his feet and snarling any warning that Yoongi would grumble and snap about, but in the end, gave up and returned to being inside.
When the sun started dying in the sky, the storm back in almost full throttle, impending worry began to eat away at his gut. He would read the same sentence over and over again, finger aching, and no closer to knowing what the fuck was happening within the story that he was supposed to be focused on.
Scoffing, he tossed the book aside. He hadn't heard much from the canine, and it was beginning to weigh on him as the wind howled, and the rain pounding.
Uneasily, Yoongi got to his feet and grabbed his phone. Pleased at seeing a signal, he called Namjoon quickly.
He picked up on the second ring.
"Hyung? Hyung, are you okay?" Namjoon asked, panic lacing his breathless tone.
Yoongi recoiled. "Jesus Christ, Namjoon-ah. I'm fine," he snapped, shaking his head. Namjoon exhaled in relief. "Chill. There was a break in the storm today, so no having a heart attack. Anyways, that isn't why I called."
A heartbeat of silence.
Another.
"Okay... then why are you calling?" he asked quietly, a hint of resignation in his voice.
"This- this is gonna sound, like, a little crazy," he mumbled, then barked out a laugh at himself. "Actually, no, it's going to sound really crazy."
"Oh, that's reassuring. Thanks, Yoongi," Namjoon quipped tersely.
Yoongi felt his lips twitch in a wry smirk. "No worries, Joon. First rule- don't ask questions, just be your nerd self and spout out the facts, okay?"
"Nerd self?" Namjoon repeated blandly. "Um, a little offended, a little curious, and a hint scared."
"Great," Yoongi says, "what do you remember from history class about Lycans?"
Namjoon made a guttural noise in the back of his throat. "Lycans? As in the old stories of Lycanthropes? The wolves that can turn into people, Lycans?"
"Yeah."
Namjoon was deathly silent. Yoongi wondered if he was debating asking why he wanted to know or trying to figure it out on his own.
Either way, Yoongi's stomach was twisting as he glanced towards the windows.
"I know that they are supposed to be extinct. Died out a long time ago- like way before the Korean War, back when America was just discovering states and shit," Namjoon explained slowly. Carefully. "The old legends on them aren't really much, and scientists saying Lycan's are similar to us, and yet their Geno structure is different. That they are just like a wild animal, depending on circumstance."
Yoongi felt like chalk was layered over his tongue. His legs trembled under the weight of his frame, and he felt stupid asking, but he needed to know.
"Right," he breathed, and hated how airy his tone was. "Extinct, you said?"
"Well, yeah," Namjoon says. "Or in the very least endangered. Some people swear up and down that they have seen one, in America, but no proof or shit." The line buzzes. "Why, hyung?"
