Yoongi sighs tiredly as he removes his headphones, rubbing his ears with a pinched face since his ears felt flattened against his head from having the bulky things on his ears just a few hours too long.
Groaning, stretching his arms over his head and yawning, Yoongi flinched at the loud cracking from his back. He could just hear Seokjin scolding him for overstretching and more medical bullshit he could care less about.
Hitting the button on his phone, the device read off the time.
"Four-fifty-fve p.m.," the robotic voice prattled.
Yoongi's stomach churns, standing from his computer chair to glance outside through the living room window. Jeongguk went to go play around outside in his wolf form over three hours ago, and he hadn't come back. He always came back in under two hours.
So, why hadn't he come back?
Sure, there were times when he would lose track of time and come barreling into the cabin still in form form and panting from his run, but he was never back this late. It set Yoongi on edge.
Shuffling towards the front door, Yoongi shoves his coat on and then adds his beanie before he drifts outside to lean against the railing. The snow chilled his hand to the core, but he couldn't find it in him to care as he surveys the treeline.
"Jeongguk-ah! Jeongguk-ah, where are you?" he shouts, cupping his hand around his mouth and listening as his voice echoes over the expanse of the forest.
There was no answer; no barks, no howls, and no yips. Not even the thundering sound of paws.
Uneasy, Yoongi drifts down the porch steps, boots crunching the snow, and pauses inches from the treeline. His teeth chattered, eyes narrowed on the tall trees, the mesh of brown and white, and swallowed roughly.
"Jeongguk-ah, I'm serious," he calls out, glancing around. "Where are you? I'm really not in the mood for any games."
Hearing nothing even after a few minutes, Yoongi scowls and clutches his phone tighter within his pocket. He debated internally on what to do. The idea of going into the forest alone set him on edge, the fear of getting lost causing his heart to gallop in his chest.
But he knew that Jeongguk would never let him get lost. That maybe Jeongguk traveled a little too far and couldn't hear him from the cabin, but if he went further in then maybe he could find him.
It was so stupid, Yoongi fully knew that, but the way he met Jeongguk was enough to atest that maybe he wasn't the brightest when it came to wolves, or Jeongguk if he decided to be techinical.
Swallowing down his fear, Yoongi stepped into the treeline. The forest still blurred together, shadows casting darker shapes along the glistening white snow as he trudged into the forest until he could no longer see the outline of his cabin.
He felt a bit foolish, the cold settling in over his bones and his feet freezing even within the boots that he wore (and like four pairs of socks). Still, he kept marching further. His eyes scanned the trees, arms crossed over his chest to preserve warmth.
Yoongi relaxed slightly at the sight of a familiar looking clearing up ahead. Layered with snow and seeming like a beacon of hope in the otherwise color-blended forest.
Rushing into the clearing, Yoongi stood in the center and looked around.
"Darling? Where are you? It's time to come home!" he shouts, teeth clacking together. His voice echoes over the clearing and back down to the forest. There were no sounds and no movement.
Yoongi's gut clenched, nausea building within his stomach. He wasn't sure what to do as he stood amongst the white snow in the clearing. His thoughts raced, wondering if the Beta had found him, had killed him.
