Surprise was evident in his tone as the ferocious look was dropped from his face and he sniffed the air, though it was futile. Like the rest of them, her scent had been doused by deer urine and mud water.
The safety clicked.
Yoongi instantly growled low as Jisoo shakily aimed the gun for Yoongi's chest, swallowing roughly. Making a split decision, Yoongi steps forward and let himself straighten into a human.
"Jisoo-yah," he says, holding up his hands in surrender.
Jisoo gaped, the gun tumbling into the snow. Yoongi watches as Jisoo staggers backwards, staring towards Yoongi's body- the blood from his arm that matched the wound of the silver wolf and nakedness- before she fell into the snow.
"Yoongi-ssi? But- you- the wolf, you- you were a wolf," Jisoo whispers, clasping her hands in front of her to try and mask the shaking, but it was a futile attempt.
Jeongguk inches backwards, hiding behind Yoongi. He was watching Jisoo wearily, whining deep in his throat as Jisoo sucks in lungful of air, staring at Yoongi in disbelief and confusion, then drifting her eyes to Jeongguk.
"It's me, Jisoo-yah. It's Yoongi," Yoongi says easily, quietly, peering through his silver hair.
She swallows roughly. "I don't- I don't understand. How- how is this- you were-"
"It's a lot to explain, Jisoo-yah," Yoongi says quickly, ears prickling at the sound of the other humans coming around, and the other two luckily passed out. "What are you doing here? You aren't- you aren't like them, are you?"
Jisoo swallows, glancing towards the knocked out officer nearby, and shook her head so that her raven hair tumbled from her ponytail. "I didn't want to- I just- my father told me to join the others. That the wolves are dangerous, and so I- I was worried. I didn't- I didn't want to."
"It's okay, it's alright," Yoongi murmurs, heart twisting. He knew that the sheriff must have spun some kind of tale for this to be happening. The forest was burning, the cabin nothing but ash.
Jisoo wipes at her cheeks, hiccuping.
The sound of shouts reach Yoongi's ears, and Jisoo seems to hear them too since she jerks her head up, eyes widening. Yoongi takes a step back, heart beginning to race. "Jisoo-yah, listen to me, please. Let us go. We don't want trouble. This is my pack! We have a pup. We just- please."
The sounds were getting louder, guns firing, the crackling of flames. Jeongguk was whining, pressing himself against Yoongi's legs, but Yoongi was too scared to move as he stared pleadingly into Jisoo's eyes.
"You said before that- that we had to look after each other, because who else will?" Yoongi continued, meeting her gaze evenly. Jisoo swallows, eyes dropping to Jeongguk. "Please."
Jisoo inhales shakily, but nods her head once. "You're right." She glances over her shoulder. "I'll cover for you, try and get you some time." Smiling once more, she catches Jeongguk's gaze. "That's Jeongguk-ssi, isn't it?"
"Yes. Yes, he is my mate." Relief surges through Yoongi's veins, letting his head hang. "Thank you, Jisoo-yah."
Jisoo gets to her feet slowly, brushing back her hair from her face carefully. "Yoongi-ssi." Yoongi glances up through silver fringe. "Maybe one day, you can tell me the story about this? That this won't be the end."
A small smile twitches at his lips. "Yeah. Yeah, one day."
Jisoo nods, glancing towards Jeongguk with a soft smile. Jeongguk nods his head once, and her smile stretches as Yoongi turns, moving to leave, but pauses one last time to meet Jisoo's gaze. "Thank you. Really."
