The forest looks exactly how Dal remembered it. The trees almost seem to bow to her as she pauses by the path, staring up at the familiarity and remembering the last time she was here, she was leaving.
It's been four and half years since then, and things were definitely different now.
"Baby?"
Dal turns, smiling fondly at her boyfriend, Juwon. He was human, a graduated linguists major with a focus on transcribing. They had met in Dal's first year, and now have been dating for almost two years.
Despite the fact he was human, Juwon never cared she was a wolf. He had discovered her secret by accident when he planned to surprise her but instead caught her shifting into a wolf in her freshly bought apartment.
He had taken it poorly at first, freaking out until Dal had explained what and who she was. He asked questions, and then slowly began to love the wolf side of her and they had remained together ever since.
Now that they both had graduated, they had been talking about the future. Juwon wanted to see Dal's life, just as she had seen his, and so they both decided to go back together to Dal's packlands.
From there, they would see. If Juwon liked it, they mentioned staying here together, and if not, then returning to Seoul and buying a house together. Dal was already making pretty good money with her job at a new record company, and Juwon had amazing income with everything he transcribes.
"Yeah?"
"You okay?" Juwon asks, brow furrowed in concern as he wraps his arms around her waist and kisses her temple. Dal hums gently. "You seem... out of it."
"It's been a while," she explains, nose tilted to the air. "I forgot how much I missed this place. I can't wait to see my family."
Juwon smiles. "I can't wait to meet them, Moon Moon."
Dal slaps his arm, feigning a growl and baring her dull human teeth. When he first found out about her being a wolf, the first thing he said was, considering her name was the Korean word for "moon" was that she was literally like the silly wolf name meme- Moon Moon.
She never minded the nickname that only Juwon called her, since he only said it out of sheer affection for his girlfriend, so she always pretended to be mad but really, she felt her heart melt just a bit more as Juwon leans forward and kisses her.
"Come on. We have a bit of a hike," Dal explains, grabbing Juwon's free hand, and the other tightening over her duffel bag swung over her shoulder. Juwon hums, adjusting his own bag over his shoulder.
They had packed lightly, leaving most of their things in their apartments since they weren't sure if they were staying or not, so they decided to just pack essentials.
Trekking lightly, Dal felt the wolf in her stirring. Something she hadn't felt in a long time. She barely shifted in her wolf form when in Seoul, never really finding a reason between Juwon and studying. She had no heats or ruts, since she was merely a Beta, and mostly she figured she was human save for her golden eyes.
Juwon had only seen her wolf form maybe three times, and never for very long. He was always amazed at seeing it, trying to encourage her more, but she always brushed it off. When she was in wolf form, she longed for her pacl lands and her family to run with.
Not having her pack around meant no one to play with in that form, so she avoided it, deciding to remain human. Now though, walking through the forest with her boots crunching the leaves and the scent of forest loam and sunlight warming the grass, the wolf in her was roaring to life.
She felt her ribs compress and expand, a gasp leaving her throat as she squeezes her eyes closed and focuses on keeping the wolf down. She was walking with Juwon, she wasn't just going to become a wolf and leave him like that.
