As if the silence on the trip over to the police station wasn't painfully enough, you now had to actually speak to another police officer, which wasn't exactly your forte.
"What's your name?" an older police officer asks as you sit you down with one hand cuffed to the chair. Oh, if your father had only seen you now. Two normal human beings got you arrested and cuffed to a silly old chair and here you sat and kindly played along instead of using any of your powers.
"Please, miss, we need your real name?" the old man repeated himself. A little smile curled on your lips, there were so many possibilities to this question, and it was only up to you which alias you wanted to use. You looked at his name tag. Tim Miller. You almost felt bad for what was coming for him, and Tim didn't even look like a bad guy.
"Mr. Miller, may I call you Mr. Miller?" you asked as he gave you a quick nod and you couldn't help but smile. Looking down at the desk you saw a little family picture in a frame. Okay, now that you found his weak spot, you only had to drag him along.
"You see Mr. Miller I can't help but notice how happy you and your family look in that picture, You and your husband look like fantastic parents..." you said eagerly before you continued "But as you probably have seen a lot in your line of work, that's not the case for everyone. It certainly wasn't mine..." you said before dramatically staring into the air, not giving him one chance to ask before you opened your mouth.
"My father, he used to be my biggest idol. I admired him with all my heart, and I used to treasure him and my family more than anything, that was until I grew up. When I realized what type of a man my father is... He would manipulate me, set me up to do things I didn't wanna do and I craved his acceptance... So when I got older, I made my own choice and said to myself, you know what? I can be whoever I want to be, I won't let him define who I am, what I can do. You get that...? Right, so I changed my name a couple of times, just to stay safe from him."
You were talking, talking, talking and didn't leave any room for Mr. Miller to say anything. If he lifted his voice, you would lift your voice higher, but it wasn't really necessary as Mr.Miller seemed to engage with your story. What you were saying wasn't even that far from the truth, so nobody could really say you were lying. You were just simply selective about the information you gave him and chose your words very carefully. He grunted as he looked down at the computer.
"I really just need your birth name," he said trying to not sound rude. You let your smile fade away and looked down at your shoes. "Okay, if you must know Mr. Miller, my bir..." more couldn't you say before a woman came in and interrupted the two of you.
"May I borrow this young lady?" she put her hand on your shoulder. You tried to figure out how she knew you or if you knew her, but nothing about her gave it away. She seemed to have the officers' respect, at least Mr. Miller's as he was gladly giving her the keys to the cuffs. You took one last look at Mr. Miller "Thank you so much for giving me space, letting me talk and just truly listening to me, it meant so much Mr. Miller" you said with a cheeky smile before you walked out with the women.
She didn't even offer you a smile as she strictly led you through the corridors. Not knowing who she was, you were unsure about what to say. You stopped outside of a heavy protected door and she started to look for her keys so you caught a sneak peak of her name tag.
"Thank you so much Dr. Raynor" you said with a big smile and pointed at her name tag.
"Oh, don't thank me... Thank your ex-boyfriend with the vibranium arm" she said as she opened the door for you.
"The two of you need some serious therapy."
