He probably saw that you were struggling to keep yourself up, cause he was talking extremely slow, to make sure you got everything he told you. You gave him a little nod. Charles wanted so badly to ask how you were, but it was clear as a day that you were in a lot of pain. Simply being bound up like you were, must numb your whole upper body. He wanted to ask if they fed you and gave you enough water, but he knew how they treated mutants in here and he knew the answer you would give him hurt more than it would help you in any way.
"Charles, where am I?" you asked, and he snapped out of his little bubble.
"You're at the raft, they have their own area for..us" he explained. You gave him a nod.
"Why isn't it anyone else here with me?"
Your voice was so soft and innocent, but the question sent a gut to his stomach. He didn't know how to explain this to you, without actually hurting you. He didn't wanna add anymore pain to what you already were dealing with. He looked down at his hands. He could feel his heartbeat hitting harder and harder. He looked up and to the side. You noticed how he didn't wanna look at you anymore.
"They are afraid I'll hurt the others, aren't they?" you whispered and looked down at your arms. You bet your lips to stop yourself from crying again.
"They are only afraid of what they don't understand, okay?" Charles said the second after you finished your sentence. You looked up at him, this time you couldn't stop yourself from letting the anger out.
"No, Charles.. You don't get it," you said with a harsh tone and looked away.
"Humans will never understand me, they see my father and I'm already dead to them. Stop babying me, I know that I'll get a trail and they will all act like it's fair, but you and me both know that I will never ever be treated the same way humans with similar track records as me would" You said frustrated.
It annoyed you how naive Charles could be about your position. He still thought that if you just spoke kindly enough and behaved exemplary to the people above you that they would listen, but for certain people that would never be good enough. You knew that the things you had done was bad and yes you deserved punishment for the blood you had spilled, but what they were doing to you inside here, nobody deserves.
"Look at the Avengers, they have done awful things in their past and yes, they were punished for it, but just short time after the world loves them. Then look at our people, nobody is fighting for us, nobody cares for us. We could rot in cells like this and the world wouldn't blink an eye," You knew you started to sound more and more like your father, so you stopped yourself and took a deep breath.
"That's not entirely true y/n" Charles said, treading very carefully around you. You looked up at him and waited for him to explain himself. He tilted his head to the side.
"After what you did in Riga, many are now looking up to you and no, not only by mutants, but also by humans. You saved Lemar Hoskins, and you took back the shield from Walker. He tried to kill you, but you were the bigger guy and tried to talk him down. You didn't even fight him, only knocked him out. The whole world saw what you did that day, why do you think it was so many people who were willing to bail you out the second it was possible? They believe in you y/n" Charles said slowly, making sure you heard everything he told you.
You lifted your head staring up at the roof as tears started to stream by the words Charles just had spoken. Everything felt so confusing right now. You had no perspective of how the world looked right now. Time and place until now had been a lost concept for you the last few days. You had no clue how the world reacted to what you had done and to the things that must have common out about you. All you really wanted to see was daylight one more time and get back with the boys, even if they maybe didn't want to get back with you.
"Well that doesn't matter, I'll probably not be able to survive more than a day outside this prison" you whispered. Charles looked at you confused.
"Y/n what are you talking about?" he asked dead seriously. You leaned your head to the side, so he could see the area where they had stunted you. It was a mix between blue and purple.
"They are poisoning my blood to keep me in tact," you said and tilted your head back.
"It's a form of anesthesia. They use it to knock me out when they wanna take blood tests on me, or feed me, clean me or whatever else they do with me when I'm outside this cell" you said, your voice and your face were now emotionless.
Sometimes you would just wake up in the cell with no memories or idea of what had happened to you. Then you could easily drag the conclusion when your hair was wet and your body was then clean that they had showered you. You didn't need to ask why they would drug you for it. They were afraid that the tiniest amount of metal could tick you off, so then it was safer to have you down.
"It's addictive to my cells. It takes over my mutant cells. When I stop taking the anesthesia my mutant cells will fight back.. making me unstable physically and mentally, whatever that means" you explained.
Charles looked at you with fear in his eyes. His time was running out, but the information you had just given him was like a bomb. He had never heard about anything like it. Of course it's been 'vaccines' to get rid of your powers, but this was a whole nother level of evil. It took away your choice and forced you into addiction. We had no idea what 'unstable' meant, but coming from this institution he knew it meant no good. He thought about it for a long time.
"I'll find the payeer, we will get you to the school. Jean, Hank and I'll find a way.." more couldn't he say before the guards disturbed him and told him to go. He looked back up at you. You could see that he didn't want to leave you, but you knew they wouldn't be kind to him if he didn't. You carefully stood up, showing him that it was okay.
"I trust you Charles" you said to him.
He looked into your eyes. He couldn't help himself from wanting to stay on the floor with you, until he knew that you were safe. He knew you were more than strong enough to handle one more night, but that didn't mean he didn't want to be there for you. The two of you had no clue about who the payeer was and if the person could be trusted. Yes, he trusted that Matt could do that it takes if needed, but what if it was Erik who actually showed up? Matt was no match against Erik. He snapped out of his thoughts when one of the guards took his hand on his shoulder.
"See you tomorrow."
