The next game went by in a blur, luckily Karasuno won again meaning they get to move on in the Tokyo qualifiers. As the team was loading up the bus you were still lost in your own world, you could hear people calling your name but ignored them. You took your usual seat next to Tsukki and he said something rude as usual but he was surprised when you didn't respond.

"Shortcake?" he asked pulling your face towards his.

"Hmm?" you answered still not fully paying attention. He quickly pulled your lips towards his giving you a quick kiss, you pulled back in response realizing what just happened.

"NO MAKING OUT ON THE BUS!" Ukai yelled from the driver's seat, you could feel his eyes watching the two of you.

"What was that for?" you asked pulling Tsukki's hand from your face.

"I'll tell you after you tell me what's wrong with you" he stated narrowing his eyes.

"Nothing is wrong with me, other than the fact you just got us yelled at" you snapped back.

"If you weren't lost in space I wouldn't have had to kiss you to get your attention" he said his tone growing sharper.

"You could've just called my name, I would've answered" you said rolling your eyes.

"I did call your name, I even called you shortcake and you answered but not really.." he said his tone growing sad, he turned to look out the window to hide his saddened face.

"Oh..... I'm sorry Kei. I did have something on my mind, I'm better now I promise" you said gently taking his hand in yours.

"Tch" he scoffed rolling his eyes but interlocking his fingers with your's. "Are you going to tell me what was on your mind?" he asked.

"For the sake of our friendship I don't think that's a good idea" you honestly said. His eyes trailed your face as he was deep in thought.

"Okay whatever then, Shortcake." He looked back out the window, pulling his headphones on with one hand and closing his eyes.

You relaxed into the seat with a deep sigh, finally meeting Ukai's eyes in the mirror. He held your gaze for a moment and then winked making you chuckle. His eyes traveled to a different spot in the mirror and his face went more serious, he put his eyes back on the road and put the bus in gear. You were curious who else he had seen in the mirror but you didn't have the nerve to turn around and look.

*time skip*

Two months had passed quickly, everyone had been practicing day and night. Not sure on how to help you dedicated your time to studying other teams. You traveled to Nekoma first, they had both great attack and defense skills so studying their form and teamwork was very helpful. Shiratorizawa was next, their team was just as cohesive but different, it was as if the entire team was bred to be good at volleyball. Unfortunately that was basically the rumor about them, their coach only picked the best of the best to be on his team so every single player was a powerhouse. Watching them in action was almost scary, the power and pure skill they had was insane. You rounded out your studies with a trip to Fukurodani to see Bokuto. Watching them was far different, Bokuto was clearly the reason the team had been to Nationals every year. His power was unmatched by most, but the rest of the team knew perfectly how to bring out the best in him, and he brought out the best in them. The unspoken perfect synchronization between Bo and Akaashi reminded you a lot of Hinata and Kageyama.

Your notebook was full of notes on form, best serving practices, key words they used, and the advice the coaches had given throughout the practices. The coaches really didn't mind you taking notes which you found odd, but you didn't dare question it.
