"I really don't think you should meet her." I said.
Lucas sat down next to me. "Come on, you've met my parents."
I sighed. "But my mom is so embarrassing."
Lucas laughed lightly. "Trust me, mine are worse. You remember."
I remembered when we traveled to Texas to meet his parents and I laughed.
"Fine...I guess you could meet her tonight since she's home."
Lucas grabbed my hand. "Thanks. You're the best."
We finished eating our lunches and the bell rang.
"See you after school." Lucas waved.
I waved back and headed to my seventh period.

I changed into a new outfit and looked at the time.
6:55. Lucas will be here soon.
I sighed. I was so nervous, my mom and boyfriend meeting for the first time. Yikes.
I just told my mother recently I had a boyfriend and she didn't show any emotions.
I guess it's hard on her, since dad left us when I was younger.
I walked out to the living room to see my mom still in her work uniform.
"Mom. Lucas is gonna be here soon." I said, trying to hint at her.
She looked up at me. "Who's Lucas?"
"My boyfriend. Remember we've been through this."
She nodded at me and opened the fridge.
"I brought some leftovers from the diner to eat." She said, setting the boxes on the table.
She didn't change her outfit but it's okay..
I nodded and there was a knock on the door.
I took a deep breath and walked over to the front door.
I opened it and there stood Lucas.
"Hey." He said, smiling.
We hugged and then let go.
I shut the door behind him and walked into the kitchen.
I cleared my throat. "Mom, this is Lucas. Lucas this is my mom."
Lucas put his hand out. "Hi ms. Hart nice to meet you."
She shook it awkwardly but put a smile on her face. "You can call me Katy if you want."
We all sat down and my mom heated up the leftovers.
I felt Lucas's hand meet mine from under the table and I looked down to see our hands intertwined.
We both smiled at each other and looked over to my mom.
"So you work at ____ diner?" Lucas asked her.
(A/N I totally forgot the diner name Maya's mom worked on I'm sorry)
Mom nodded. "Yes."
"Oh cool. My dad and I go there sometimes, it's good." Lucas said politely.
My mom just nodded again and I sighed
I couldn't tell if this was going well or not.
We continued eating in silence and attempted to make some small talk.

After dinner, I felt Lucas's grip loosen and he stood up.
"I told my parents id be home by 8:30." He said.
"Oh alright." Mom said.
I walked towards the door with him and Lucas turned around.
"Oh and ms hart--I mean Katy?" Lucas said, correcting himself.
"Yes?"
"I can't tell if you like me or not but... I just wanted to let you know I'll always protect Maya."
He smiled down at me and opened the front door.
I closed it behind him and looked over at my mom, who was thinking.
"I like him... You did good Maya." She finally said.
