Maya was standing in her bedroom, looking into her closest.
Tonight was one of the biggest middle school dances.
She didn't have a date, but instead she was going with her best friend.
Lucas friar.
People tease them all the time of liking each other, but they say they don't.
Maya wore a typical casual dress and looked at the time.

She went downstairs to see Lucas already there.
"Hey Lucas!" She said brightly.
He looked at her. "Hey maya!"
Maya's mom then came into the room. "Have fun."
"I'll have her home by 9." Lucas joked.
Maya rolled her eyes and they both walked out the front door.

It was now the first of high school.
Maya and Lucas were still best friends.
Maya stepped out of the car and found herself in front of a huge high school.
She looked to her right to see Lucas there.
"Lucas I'm scared." She said.
They had already both already gotten their schedules and didn't have any classes together, except lunch.
Lucas looked at his best friend, concerned. "Maya it's gonna be okay. I'll find you at lunch."
Maya let out a sigh but nodded her head. "Okay."
They both walked into the crowded hallways and looked around.
The bell rang and they went their separate ways.
"See you at lunch!" Lucas yelled across the hallway.

Lucas and Maya were sitting by a park bench.
"I can't believe this is happening." Maya said, looking down.
Lucas scooted closer to her. "Shhh..it's gonna be okay."
"You say that every time." Maya said.
Lucas nodded. "I know. Because it's true."
Maya's mom was moving states and leaving Maya behind with her aunt.
Nobody knew except Lucas.
Maya took a deep breath. "Well, at least we will still be going to the same school."
Lucas smiled. "Yeah. That's a good thing."

Lucas and Maya were juniors in high school.
Lucas had finally asked Maya out after five years.
