Maya hart walked into her preschool class on the first day of school.
She hugged her mom and then ran off to the play area.
Maya was quite independent, even at a young age.
She started coloring--more like scribbling in a coloring book when a boy came towards her direction.
She looked up at him and watched as he took the crayon from her.
He started to color on the paper when the crayon broke into two pieces.
Maya stood up quickly and crossed her arms. "Hey! You broke my crayon!" (Translate into baby language)
The boy put the broken pieces down and backed away. "Me sowwi.. I didn't mean to."
Maya grabbed another crayon and started drawing all over the paper.
The boy sat down next to her and looked at her coloring.
"Can I color too?" He said hopefully.
Maya let out a sigh. "Fine. But get your own crayon!"
Once it was cleanup time, Maya threw her crayon into the bin.
"I'm Lucas." The boy told her.
Maya perked up. "Cool I'm maya!"
"Let's be friends!"
"Okay!"
~20 years later~
Lucas led Maya onto the sand and they reached the beach.Maya looked out and breathed. "Wow."
Lucas looked back at her. "Never been to beach right?"
Maya shook her head and they reached near the water.
Lucas tugged on her arm to hold her back. "Wait... One second."
Maya turned around to look at him and Lucas felt the box in his side pocket.
They listened to the nice sounds of the waves for a few seconds.
Lucas finally spoke.
"Maya hart.... I've known you for about 20 years now and you are the best thing to happen to me. I'm so happy we met in preschool... Who knows if I didn't break your crayon we could've never met."
Maya felt tears hit her eyes as Lucas got down on one knee.
"Will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?"
He opened up the box and inside was a diamond ring with... A broken crayon.
Maya went into his arms and hugged him. "Yes. Of course I will.."
~~~~~~
After their day at the beach, they drove back to Maya's apartment building and Lucas carried her out of the car and into the building.They ran into their friends Farkle and Riley on the way.
They looked at Maya's hand and saw the big diamond ring.
"Wow! Dude I didn't know you were asking her today." Farkle said.
Lucas nodded. "Yep. I showed her some broken crayons."
He smirked and Farkle looked confused.
"What?"
"I'll explain it to you later."
