Maya and Lucas walked around the park, no words spoken.
They then settled on sitting a bench.
Maya looked at Lucas and Lucas avoided eye contract back.
"Why do you have to go..." Maya said quietly.
Lucas looked at her. "My dad got transferred..."
Maya couldn't help but feel upset.
Her best friend from age 3 was moving miles and miles away.
Right now, Lucas and Maya were only 12 years old.
"Will you ever come back?" Maya said.
Lucas looked down at his lap. "I don't know..."
More silence came and Lucas slowly reached into his jacket pocket.
A little bracelet came out and Lucas handed it over to me.
"Here's some memory of me. Every time you look at it, know I'll be back." Lucas said.
Maya slid it onto her wrist and noticed Lucas had the same exact bracelet.
They both smiled until Lucas stood up from the bench.
"See you around Maya.." He said, starting to wake away.
"bye..."
~8 years later~
Maya's POV:
20 years old
The bell rang after endless hours and I slammed my book shut, standing up.
I went out into the crowded hallway and started putting my books away.
It was finally the end of the school day and it was also the weekend!
I am Maya hart and I am 20 years old and go to pennbrook for college.
I go here with my best friends, Riley and Farkle who I met in middle school.
Speaking of them, we should be meeting up soon.
I started to finger with a bracelet that was on my left arm and sighed.
This one bracelet was very special to me because an old friend gave it to me.
Well that friends name is Lucas friar.
We met when we were only three years old and starting preschool.
8 years ago, his dad got transferred to Texas and he hasn't visited since.
Sure, we talked a little bit when I was starting high school but then we lost contract.
After Lucas moved, I met Riley and Farkle in 7th grade and we became friends instantly.
I snapped out of my thoughts to see Riley waving in my face.
"What? Hi." I said, alert.
Riley put her hand down. "I was doing that for like two minutes!"
"Sorry, I was obviously daydreaming.." I said.
Riley shrugged and turned towards Farkle. "You wanna come to my place?"
Did I mention Riley and Farkle are a couple?
Well they started dating in the senior year of high school but then they took a break.
And now they are a couple again in college.
Ever since then, I've been the third wheel and they leave me out on everything.
I sighed, leaving the two lovebirds behind to get a subway ride back home.
I may be in college but I still leave at my apartment since it's only a few minutes away.
I walked out the front doors, heading towards the subway station which was very close by.
Once I reached the station, I waited for the subway I needed to get on and held my heavy book bag.
There were tons and tons of people going on this subway today..
The subway came and people filed in.
Luckily, I got a spot to sit right next to the exit.
The subway started moving and I observed my surroundings a little.
There were tons of people coming home from work and a few children around their parents.
i suddenly heard my phone beep from inside my bag.
I reached inside the side pockets of the bag, but couldn't find it.
"Ugh, where is it?" I said to myself, digging through my backpack.
Suddenly, i heard a voice from above me. "Hi, may i seat here?"
For some reason, the voice seemed awfully familiar.... way too familiar.
I looked up at the person and immediately caught sight of the bracelet.
It was the same bracelet as mine... the one Lucas gave me when we were 12 years old.
"i cant believe it..." That's all i could find myself to say.
He sat next to me. "hey Maya."
"Lucas... you're finally here."
He nodded and pointed at my bracelet. "I told you i'd be back wouldn't I? It took me 8 years but i'm here."
