"So what would you rate Jessica?" I asked the blonde girl across from me.

The girl sat down in a chair. "I would say a 4 out of 10."

I raised an eyebrow. "That low?"

"Yeah. She sucks." She confessed.

I leaned across my balcony. "How nice of you."

Let me tell you about myself real quick.

I'm Lucas friar. I'm 16 years old and life with two parents.

The girl I'm talking to right now is Maya.

The thing is I don't even know her last name.

We live right next door to each other, and we both have balconies that lead to our bedrooms.

So we talk here a lot and she gives me advice for girls.

I pick up girls pretty quickly.

I snapped out of my daydreams to see Maya reading a book.

I remember Maya telling me once she was homeschooled so she usually on her balcony.

I looked at the time and stood up. "I gotta get to school."

Maya nodded, not taking her eyes off a book. "You better not ask out Jessica."

I groaned. "Fineee. Bye."

"Bye."

~~~~
I ran to my balcony a few days later with big news.
"Maya guess what!" I exclaimed.
I noticed she wasn't out here but I saw her bedroom light on.
I leaned against my balcony and called. "Maya!"
The door suddenly opened. "Sup?"
"I got the perfect girl."
Maya walked over and leaned her arms on her balcony. "Tell me."
I started describing the girl. "She has long brown hair. And beautiful brown eyes."
Maya nodded slowly. "Mhm. Sounds interesting."
I leaned down and handed Maya my yearbook. "I found her picture from last year."
Maya took it. "You're creepy."
I showed Maya which one she was and she nodded. "Riley Matthews huh?"
I nodded and she handed it back. "What's her personality like?"
I shrugged. "I just met her today."
I saw Maya roll her eyes. "seriously?"
I nodded and laughed at her expression.
"Well, I got to go to the store with my mom. I'll be back later."
I nodded and watched as she disappeared into the bedroom.
I grabbed out my phone and started going through Instagram.
I was thinking of asking this girl tomorrow.
~~
I was still sitting on my balcony when I heard a door open.
I looked up to see Maya standing there. She didn't look happy.
"What's wrong?" I asked immediately
"I have to go to a public school."
I sat up. "Really?"
Maya nodded. "My mom is making me. This is horrible. I'm so anti social."
"Which school?"
"John Quincy high school."
I brightened up. "Oh cool! That's my school."
"My mom wants me to start tomorrow." Maya groaned loudly.
I chuckled slightly. "So I can walk you to school tomorrow."
Maya shrugged. "I guess."
I stood up. "Great. See you tomorrow."
I walked into my bedroom since it was getting pretty late and it was a school night.
~~~~
I walked into my front yard and looked around.

I haven't seen Maya yet this morning.

She was probably nervous for her first day at school.

I found myself staring off into space when I heard footsteps.

I turned to see Maya walking towards me...

This was super weird...

The truth is we've never talked anywhere except our balconies... Ever.

She approached me and took a deep breath. "well I'm here."

I didn't say anything for awhile.

Then I spoke up, "well I'll lead the way."

We started walking silently towards my high school.

I decided to speak up again, "so I'm asking that Riley girl out today maybe."

"already?"

I just shrugged. "I don't know yet. Maybe you can help, since you're here."

Maya shrugged. "We will see."

We reached the school and started walking towards the hallways.

~a few days later~
Well, it's been a few days since Maya started school here.

I think she likes it.

One thing is Riley totally denied going out with me.

Maya gave me advice, but oh well.

I saw Maya coming towards me at lunch with a smile on her face. "I'm sitting with someone else at lunch today."

"You're ditching me? Really?" I joked.

Maya pushed me playfully. "You can join. But you may not want to..."

"Why?"

"It's with Riley."

I groaned. "Really?"

Maya smiled. "Sorry man."

I shrugged. "It's okay."

Maya was about to walk away when I called after her.

"So it looks like you don't need me anymore?" I said.

Maya shook her head. "No. But we will always have our balconies."

She walked away and I smiled.

We will.
