I walked into the nice warm building, holding my phone up to my ear.
"I don't want a date for the dance, Riley."
I stopped walking so i could get in line for a drink.
I listened to Riley argue over how i should at least want a date.
"Dances are so stupid. Why do you even have to take someone?"
"Please Maya. You haven't been with a guy since the 8th grade."
I sighed, looking in front of me to see i was next in line. "I'm gonna have to call you back."
I hung up before she could protest and looked at the person behind the counter.
He was a teenager, most likely my age, wearing the starbucks uniform.
"Your friends trying to set you up for a dance huh?"
I nodded a little. "uh yeah. Sorry you had to hear all my complaining."
The guy shrugged. "it's all good. I know what you're going through. We have the junior semi formal coming up and my friends want me to take a date."
I nodded again, not knowing what else to say. I just wanted my drink to be honest, i was really thirsty.
"So what can i get for you?" He said, quickly changing the subject.
"Umm can i get a latte please?" I asked politely.
(I don't really go to starbucks so just make up whatever drink lmao)The guy turned around to grab a cup from behind him. "Sure. What's your name?"
"Maya."
He turned around again to write my name on the cup and he disappeared.
I got out my phone again to surprisingly see no new messages from Riley.
I slipped my phone back into my pocket.
I don't understand what Riley is trying to say. That I need a date to be happy?
Umm no thanks.
I saw the guy return with my drink in his hands. "Here it is Maya."
I went over to the counter and took it. "Thanks."
I took out my wallet and placed a 5 dollar bill down. "Keep the change."
I looked at the cup to see my name written nicely across the cup.
"Wow, you actually spelled my name right. That's a first."
He looked surprised. "Really?"
"Yeah. Usually people spell it different ways. It's weird."
He laughed a little. "Well, interesting enough I used to have a friend in elementary school named Maya. Spelled the same way too."
I was about to say something when my phone buzzed.
I looked at it and started panicking. "Oh no. I'm late for work."
Before the guy could answer, i took a quick glance at his name tag. Lucas.
"Maybe i'll see you around Lucas." I said, starting to rush away.
"Okay bye." I heard his voice faintly say.
I got into my car, placing my drink into a cup holder.
Now, this is what happens when i talk to boys.
I started the car and started driving down the road.
At least this guy wasn't that bad
~a few days later~
I walked into the same Starbucks.
