Maya's POV:
I bit my nails nervously, listening to a different performance every few minutes backstage.
Why did I agree to do this?
I tightened my grip on my guitar, which was very important to me.
It was given to me when I was 9 years old from my grandmother and then she passed away....
Tears tried to escape my eyes but I kept them in.
I felt a comforting hand on my shoulder.
I looked up to see Riley, Farkle and Lucas. My best friends.
"Your gonna do great." Riley said.
I can't wait to hear you sing." Farkle added.
I felt another hand on my shoulder. The touch made me shiver.
"Your gonna do amazing." Lucas said, smiling at me.
I just nodded and waited for my turn.
After a few minutes, I heard my name onstage. I stood up and started to head out to stage.
"well I guess it's my turn." I said laughing my nervousness off.
My friends gave me a thumbs up and I walked on to stage.
Immediately, I felt the lights beam on me.
I took a seat in a chair.
I looked out into the audience and saw thousands of people, sitting there staring at me with no emotion.
My grip on my guitar tightened even more, and my palms started to sweat uncontrollably. My legs were shaking.
"I-I'm sorry I can't do this!" I said into the microphone and darted off. I went outside the gym so I didn't have to face my friends.
I went into an empty classroom and closed the door.
I took a deep breath and pushed my hair out of my face with my hand. I sat down in a chair, silently.
Suddenly, the door opened. "Maya.." A familiar voice said.
"I'm sorry." I said, my back facing him
It was silent for another moment until he spoke up again, "you can do this Maya. You are a very talented singer and an amazing person, if anyone judges you... I will be there."
I smiled at his words. They always seemed to calm me down. I turned to face him.
"Thank you."
Lucas handed me my guitar. "You gonna do it?"
I nodded. "Yeah but first.." I leaned up to kiss his cheek.
He caught me off guard and moved my lips to meet his lips. He caught me off guard but I kissed back.
I felt sparks go through my body immediately, like a million fireworks have gone off.
We finally released the kiss, in need of air.
"You have no idea how long I have wanted to do that." He whispered.
I smiled at him and said "same here cowboy. Same here."
He reached for my hand. Our hands met.
"Let's do this." I said.
We walked out the classroom door and went back to the gym, hand in hand.
