JJ's POV:

We had graduated high school and it was time for all of us to go our separate ways. It just so happened that Kie was the first to leave. She got this amazing scholarship for a marine biology program in California. Her parents totally set it up but it was still super sick.

The catch was that Kie had to leave in June, so she was leaving two months before everyone else. She was so excited and we were all happy for her, we were just going to miss her. I was going to miss her.

Kie was over now saying goodbye to all of us as she was leaving early tomorrow morning. We were all sad to see her leave. She spent a few minutes saying goodbye to us and she was crying and so sad. When she got to me, I froze and didn't even know what to say. I was an idiot and just hugged her and said, "Bye, Kie... Don't meet California Kooks and forget about us..."

She laughed and said, "You guys are my family, I could never replace you."

We all hugged her one last time and she left. We all missed her and we were constantly texting in the group chat but it wasn't the same thing.

It had been two weeks without her here and we got into a little fight with the kooks. It was nothing new, just the same old fighting. I was pretty beat up and Kie was the first person I wanted to talk to. She was the only one I could open up to and she was gone. I went home and tried to clean my own wounds but just went to bed instead.

I had been kinda keeping to myself the next few weeks and John B came over to see how I was doing.

"JJ, you don't have to pretend you're okay... You can tell me what's bothering you. You've been my brother since third grade"

"It's nothing..." I lied

"Bullshit... If you don't tell me, I'm going to facetime Kie."

"She's the fucking problem, okay? I miss her..." I admitted

"Yeah, I know that. You're miserable and everyone can see it. Do you know why you feel like this? Because you're in love with her!"

"I'm not in love with her... She's just my best friend" I said defending myself because I didn't love Kie. I didn't love anyone and I never would

"Whatever you say..." He said not believing me

Soon, Sarah and John B left and so did Pope. I was all alone now and it was miserable. I hated growing up and having to be an adult. Thankfully, there was a break for everyone for Thanksgiving and the pogues all came home.

We were all at the chateau talking about the past few months. Kie seemed like she was having an epic adventure in California. I'll admit, I was super jealous.

Pope was being a complete nerd about college and all his science classes. John B and Sarah were still disgustingly in love. It felt so good to be back with everyone.

Thanksgiving approached and John B and Sarah were going to the Cameron house. Rose and Wheezie were home now. Pope had his family and Kie had hers. I was just chilling at my house all alone as I had no family.

There was a knock on my door and Kie stood there.

"Hey, what are you doing here?"

"Since my parents wouldn't let me invite you over, I figured the least I could do is bring you some food." She said pulling out containers of food

"Kie, you didn't have to do this.." I said as I had never seen so much food in my life for one meal

"Relax, I've missed you and this is a good excuse for the two of us to hang out." She said

She put food on two plates and we were eating and the food was incredible. She said she waited to eat so she could eat with me. She told me all about her program and California. She loved it but she also hated it at the same time as it was so far away. We talked for hours and she brought a pie over too.

We shared the dessert and then she asked if I had heard from my dad and I told her nope. We went to the chateau and she left me with all the leftovers. We all spent the night drinking beers and hanging out by the fire. Kie told the pogues what she told me earlier about her school about she missed being close to home. We crashed in our usual spots and the next day, Kie was leaving to go back to California.

She was crying and Pope was watching me and so was John B. I didn't understand why. Again, we all said our goodbyes and we watched Kie leave. She was leaving early as she had to get to the airport to fly back.

Kie was walking to her car and Sarah said, "Dude, we all know you love her... Go after her..."

I looked at them and I must really suck at hiding how I feel. Pope looked at me and said, "She clearly likes you, go with her to California"

"Come on bro, stupid things have good outcomes all the time. Follow your girl to California" John B encouraged

"Fuck it..."I said running outside after Kie who was getting in her car

"Kie!" I called and she stopped and turned and looked at me and the pogues were watching from a distance

"I just wanted to say that I hope you have a safe trip." I said panicking

"Thank you..." She said in a confused voice as I made it seem much more important

She turned to get in her car and I said, "I love you!"

She stopped and looked at me very confused like I was speaking a foreign language. Shit, she was going to reject me in front of everyone.

"You love me?" She asked in a whisper

"Yes, I do and I have for a really long time and I'm fucking miserable here without you, Kie. You are my best friend and I miss you"

"Come with me to California. I'll buy you a plane ticket right now"

"Really?" I asked shocked

"Yes, because I missed you and the boys in Califonia can't surf like you can and no matter how many of them ask me out, I always say no because my heart only beats for my favorite surfer from the Outer Banks. I love you, J..." She said and I leaned in and kissed her

The pogues cheered from a distance and we broke the kiss laughing and I kissed her forehead and said, "I can't wait to go to Cali with my girl"

We went to my house and I packed a bag for a month and then we were going to the airport.
