"Hey, you." heard Kaz his boyfriend's voice behind him. He turned, grabbed Poppy's coat and turned him with his back to the wall, pressing him against it. Then he let go of him and propped one arm against the wall beside Poppy's head. 

"You're really enjoying this, aren't you?" laughed Poppy. "I didn't build up the image of dirty hands to then flirt with my boyfriend in public," said Kaz. If you knew him you could see the gentle smile on his lips. "And so you look like you're going to kill me even though you're flirting with me?!" "Special talent." 

"Son of a bitch." "I've been called worse. Besides, you love me." "Yeah, lucky you." Kaz reached into his pocket. He pulled out a thin little chain and let it slip from his hand so that it hung from his finger and dangled in front of Poppy's face. 

"Wow, it's beautiful." murmured Poppy, placing the pendant on his fingers. Then he let go of it again and crossed his arms in front of his chest, "Whose is it?" "Yours now." "Kaz, I don't want any presents you've stolen." he sighed, " It's still really pretty." Kaz smiled and undid the clasp on the necklace. 

"I knew you would like it. That's why I bought it. And it goes with your new dress." Kaz carefully put the necklace on Poppy and then stroked his cheek briefly. "My new dress?" smirked Poppy. "Bedroom, black box."

"Sugar Daddy!" warbled Jesper, who was sitting at a table nearby. "Well, I've decided against the expensive habits of the afterlife. I'd rather spend my money now." "I don't understand how you can play Sugar Daddy and still be extremely rich," Jesper said, crossing his legs.

Kaz raised an eyebrow, "Jesper, even after you paid off your debt you have almost as much money as me." "Yeah, but so does my boyfriend. So I can't even play Sugar Daddy." "You want me to be your Sugar Daddy?" Poppy and Kaz both started laughing. Neither of them knew if they were laughing at Wylan's offer or Jesper's stupid face. Probably both. 

"Wylan is still a baby, don't disturb him right away." said Inej, holding his hand in front of the youngest man's eyes. "He just offered to play Sugar Daddy to his boyfriend. It can't be that bad, can it?" said Kaz, but still stepped back a bit from Poppy. "I'm not a baby!" complained Wylan defiantly, pushing the Suli girl's hand away. "Oh he's definitely anything but a baby. You should see him-" Kaz quickly pressed a gloved hand over Jesper's mouth.

He bent down to the Zemeni's ear: "If it's not worth it for blackmail, then I don't want to hear any detail about any sex life. Especially not my son's." Jesper laughed: "All right, all right! I'll shut up." 

"We'll go upstairs." Kaz finally sighed, declaring the conversation over. He let Poppy go up the stairs in front of him. Partly he was polite, but mostly he just hated it when people walked behind him. It stressed him out and didn't do his paranoia any good. 

As soon as Kaz had closed the door behind him, Poppy jumped into his arms and hugged him. "Happy Birthday." he whispered in Kaz's ear. "Shhh~! Liar. It's not my birthday." grumbled the leader of the Crows. "Yes it is. And I won't complain about the presents you gave me on your birthday when you finally shut up and let me celebrate your birthday." Kaz sighed again and rested his head on his boyfriend's shoulder. "I love you. But I'll never forgive you for this." "I can live with that." The dark-skinned man laughed and grabbed Kaz's hand to pull him to the bed with him.

"Sit down." Poppy laughed and pushed his boyfriend onto the bed. "I hate my birthday. Just let me die here." Kaz slumped backwards on the bed and closed his eyes. "I'll leave you alone for the next five years. But it's your 20th birthday and I haven't told your whole family. So at least let me give you something." Kaz opened one eye suspiciously when he heard Poppy rustling something. 

Suddenly Poppy sat down on Kaz's lap. When he sat up, his mouth fell open for a second. "You remember this?" he asked in surprise, looking down at the little bee sting cake with a candle stuck in it. "Of course I remember. Kaz, there are people who listen to you and remember when something is important to you." "It's not important to me." Kaz defended himself immediately, "It's just a cake. Yes, Jordie used to make it for my birthday, but that doesn't make it important to me."

Poppy smiled gently and stroked Kaz's cheek. He unconsciously leaned slightly towards the touch. "Thank you." Kaz finally murmured. He gently pulled Poppy to him and gave him a loving kiss. Poppy lit the candle and Kaz immediately blew it out. Then he separated a piece of the cake with his fork and held it in front of Kaz's mouth. 

Kaz chewed slowly, literally staring at Poppy. "It's absoutly disgusting." he said after swallowing. "I know, right? I'm a terrible baker!" laughed Poppy. Kaz sighed, but couldn't suppress the amorous smile, "You're just unbelievable." 

They put the cake to one side and Poppy snuggled into the arms of his beloved. "I love you." Kaz breathed as he stroked Poppy's hair. "You won't be doing that in a minute." smirked Poppy, placing a small package in Kaz's hand. "You shouldn't give me anything!" "Just open it!"

After Kaz had first torn open the paper and then the small casket, he held a necklace in his hands. It was inconspicuous. A thin chain with finely worked links. The pendant was a ring that Kaz could also wear loosely on one of his thin fingers, but it seemed to belong precisely on this chain. Three words were embossed on the inside of the ring: 

"Safe with me"

Kaz pulled Poppy to him again and gave him an urgent kiss. "I know I am." he whispered before kissing him again.
