(Rylie's POV)
Rylie thought she was free from her pursuer, but she could see them illuminate their index finger with white light. They pointed to the place where she jumped and hurled a fireball at it.
They are looking for her in the river! Rylie flapped her hands away from where she was, trying not to make herself float, but it was getting harder to breathe, and she wants to gasp for air. She puts a hand to her mouth to stop herself from gurgling out any of her breath.
Surprisingly as Rylie inspected her body. Her wound quickly healed. There were no traces of bruise or injury. There were only torn on her clothes that indicated where those witches burned her.
Her grandma will indeed get worried, but how could she escape this? She even left her bag there! She needs to get out of here alive before retrieving it and going back to her grandma and mother in human form again! There's no way that she can't get back to being a human. She has to find a way!
First, that voice! She needs help from it. Rylie concentrated her breath to come out slowly.
You said you will help me! I'm already in the river! Help me!
"Wow! I never thought you could pull that off! They rarely get their prey lost." The voice sounds amused.
Rylie suppressed herself from rolling her eyes. Are you helping me or not?
"Ok. Just chill." The voice giggled again. "Swim towards the direction of the water. I'll pull you up."
"You are not tricking me. Are you?"
"No. I promise. Just swim towards the current."
Rylie did what the voice told her to. It would be harder to swim if she's an average person, but with her eyes this sharp and clear. She can already see rocks illuminated by the moon above her. She swims for a bit, and once she was sure that her pursuers are a safe distance from her, she gasped for air. She continued doing this until she felt a hand yanked her out of the water.
Her eyes widen! What if it's her attacker? Rylie scratched her claw and spun around to face whoever it is, and her eyes grew wide, and her mouth hangs open as she sees Alyssa Field. The blue-eyed goddess!
"Y-You?"
Alyssa nodded her head, lifted her left eyebrow, and crossed her arms. "You really are a hard-headed one."
"I-I'm sorry." She threw Alyssa an awkward smile. Her eyes widen when she saw the blood oozing from Alyssa's arms. Then the scratches she made slowly healed before her eyes!
"It's ok. This is nothing to wolves like us." Alyssa smirked when she noticed Rylie looking at where her supposed wound is.
Gosh! Rylie stopped herself from fanning her hands to her face. Why is this blue-eyed woman looked so hot? That smirk is sexy as hell!
She shook her head. There's no time for that! For goodness sake, Rylie!
She looked around to focus on something else, and she found out that they were in a cave, with several markings just like what she saw on the temple she took the Totem from.
She brushed past Alyssa and looked at the drawings closer. There, on the wall, is a symbol. It looked like an abstract representation of a wolf within a circle, and on the right side is the moon's phases. It's made of blood. Now that she recalled, the temple's symbol is composed of papers hanging with dried blood. But it has a plus sign on the left side.
"W-What are these?"
"It's the only thing that protects us from those witches—barriers of protection. Our magic is different from them. We can be physically advanced, but our magic is limited. We can only use these kinds of magic." Alyssa went to the symbol and touched it. "By pouring our blood on it. It hides our magic from them, but they are not effective when the witches already see you."
"Oh. A-Are we safe for now?"
"Yeah."
She faced Alyssa. "On the temple, I saw what looked like a talisman, but the symbol has one difference to this one. There was a plus sign on the left."
Alyssa scrunched her forehead. "Let's go to the elders. This situation of yours is so bizarre. I need someone to explain it properly to you."
The blue eye peeks from the cave they were hiding. Then Alyssa turned around when she was about to follow the lead. Rylie immediately stopped, and she was faced to face with Alyssa. Their faces are a few inches away from each other.
Rylie cleared her throat. "Uhmmm.......What?"
"Here, put these markings on top of your heart." Alyssa handed her one of the papers, but Rylie struggled to grasp it. "This stops your magic from pouring out, and the witches will be unable to sniff you out."
Alyssa sighed and looked her in the eyes before smiling. "You look like you need my help."
Blushing, Rylie turned her head away. Her heart became a beating drum on her ear too. She doesn't understand the intense stare, though. Alyssa put the paper on her and secured it with the wires she used to decorate the cave.
"There."
Again, Alyssa smiled at her. Rylie lowered her head because she felt embarrassed looking at that beautiful face.
"Are you sure they're not around anymore?"
Her companion nodded her head. "Yeah. If you listened hard enough. There's no movement anywhere near us; No conversation either. Those witches can't shut their trap up when they talk, so, yeah. I'm sure there's no one around here."
Rylie followed Allyssa when they walked on the stone pavement towards a dense forest. It was dark, and if she's human, she will probably trip. Thank God, her wolf eye can easily adjust to the dark, so she sees if there's a stone on her path and can easily avoid it.
"H-How long will we be able to get there?"
"Hmm... not long. Do you want to use your speed? Can you keep up with me?"
She tilted her head. She wasn't sure if wolf magic is unlimited. Plus, their stamina can be extinguished, too, right? It's just like the second law of physics, which states that any isolated system's natural tendency to degenerate into a more disordered state-----or somewhere along those lines.
"Uh, not sure if I can keep up with you with me like this."
Alyssa snickered. "Like what?"
Rylie felt her ears and her face get hot. "I was exhausted from running away from those witches. I think your wolf magic has limits."
"Fair enough." The blue-eyed goddess nodded. "We do have a limit. We are physically drained, and our magic is only magical through our blood. Well, then I'll just carry you."
Alyssa took a step towards her. Rylie instinctively took a step back, face heating up more than it ever did in her entire 18 years of life! "I-I think I can run."
To her surprise, her companion laughed out loud. Rylie has to look around to make sure that the witches didn't hear it.
"Ssshh!"
"They won't hear us. The witches don't have super hearing abilities like werewolves do. Yes, they can sniff magic, but with this seal, we are invisible." Alyssa removed the tears that pooled on the corner of her eyes. "Gosh. You're so cute."
Rylie couldn't make eye contact with her.
She was really trying not to have a crush on the blue-eyed woman, but it was hard. Alyssa is her ideal woman, who finds her funny and cute and is not afraid to show it. Plus, she freaking beautiful too!
She's a sucker for a sweet talker, damn it!
"Oh. T-Then do you have a book for symbols like this?" Rylie chooses to venture to a different topic and touch the symbol. Lest the woman will notice Rylie's flushed face.
"Yes. But why are you suddenly interested in that?" Alyssa narrowed her eyes at her.
Rylie immediately put her hands up. "There's no particular reason. I was just curious." Except she wants to know if there were spells to make her temporarily human so she doesn't need to kidnap werewolves.
"Well. If you are curious, let's meet the elders. They're are the only ones who can answer your questions." Alyssa said. "Let's run. I think you still have some stamina left to do that."
