(Rylie's POV)
Rylie kept glancing in Aly's direction as they set out. This is the third day that they are traveling together, and she was surprised to see that even in wolf form, Aly was having nightmares.
She heard the whimpers from Aly last night, and it squeezed her heart.
Rylie can feel Aly's fear and guilt. It emanated from her body as she trembled in her sleep. Rylie wished she could comfort Aly, and just being with her last night can bring comfort too.
Aly was running ahead of her with a robust and sure gait but behind that strong appearance. Rylie knew that Aly kept on blaming herself, thus explaining the nightmares she had heard every night. It was two days in a row that Aly kept having bad dreams.
"We're here."
Rylie stopped and looked around when Aly stopped. They were on a hillside, and the whole place was full of blue oak, ponderosa pine, and shrubs.
She furrowed her brow when Aly crouched low and glanced at her.
"Crouch."
Rylie's eyes widened. She looked around in panic. But she did what Aly told her when she suddenly heard voices from where they were.
She assumes that a group of people is walking and patrolling the area to be part of the Raven Crest pack. She took a peek from the rocks where they were hiding. The patrol wore a simple shirt and was just casually looking around.
"A-Are they the Raven Crest?"
Aly looked serious, and her jaw tightened. "I don't think that they slack like this. They usually have ----"
Rylie and Aly whipped their head quickly at the sound of a leave crunching, and they both froze when a brown werewolf showed its fangs at them. Snarling and saliva pooling on the corner of its mouth.
"Who are you?!"
"We are here to ask for help." Aly quickly stood up and stood in front of Rylie.
But Rylie can see that Aly's back hair is standing on end like she was scared but trying not to show it.
"Help? If you are here to ask for help. Why didn't you just show your human form?"
"Human form? Do we need to do that to show respect? We ran to come here and ask for help. We don't have time to change!" Rylie interrupted, and the brown werewolf threw a glare her way.
"Yes, if you are asking for help. You should be in human form. Werewolf is wary of a werewolf that doesn't show its true form." The brown wolf snarled and started circling them. "Or are you a rogue?"
Rylie inhaled a breath when she saw five more gray and brown werewolves. The brown wolf must have mind-linked the other member of the pack. She looked from one wolf to another as they started snarling and walking around.
They can't possibly fight all of these werewolves if this comes to worst.
"A-Aly...."
"It's ok, Rylie. I'll show my human form." Aly looked at the brown werewolf that seemed to be leading the border patrol. "I'll show my human form as a sign of respect, and I want to talk to the Alpha."
"We will decide that."
Rylie looked at the movements of the six werewolves. She will just grab Aly and bolt out of the Raven Crest border if they decide to be an enemy. She took note of where they were and the possible exit she could take a route of.
