Rylie's POV
Rylie's hands felt cold when she entered the dark Shasta mountain. The very first day she was here. It was the same vibes. The forest looms darkly in the distance, and the deeper she goes, the feeling of dread starts to sweep on her body.
She shivered and rubbed her arms.
Then she unconsciously reached for Aly's hands. Despite the sweatiness and the coldness of her hands, Aly intertwined their hands together, and Rylie couldn't feel but feel warm. Even though they are walking to their own demise. There was nothing that she would replace in the world for it. Aly made her feel safer and braver.
Rylie looked up at Aly's face, and their eyes met. Aly smiled at her. Right then and there, Rylie felt like she would melt. She's the first to get embarrassed and look down. Suddenly remembered the kisses they shared, the way their bodies ground against each other, and how those long hands glided inside the lower part of her body.
She shook her head and looked ahead. This is not the time for these thoughts to enter her mind!
Aly squeezed her hands tighter when they entered the location of the ritual. The first thing that hit Rylie's nose was the stench of blood and decay. She almost gagged.
She bit her lip and closed her eyes.
She doesn't want to look.
Their team stopped at the entrance and is already putting their hands on their noses.
Aly's hands suddenly become cold, and Rylie could smell the hatred from Aly's body. It was too strong that she suddenly felt her body tremble.
"T-Those heartless witches!"
Rylie lifted her face up and saw Aly gritting her teeth. Her heart sunk to her stomach. She knew from Aly's face what she would see when she finally looked towards the ritual grounds.
Flies are swarming all around them, and the crows are eating some of the corpses. Rylie inhaled and exhaled a breath. She just couldn't look at the bodies, but as a sign of respect, she looked on.
These people are part of the Light Moon pack, who adopted them as one of their own. Now they are dead and rotting.
"Sh*t! We are really too late. These corpses are already 2 days dead." Lina looked down and inspected a corpse. She drew a sigil, and the runes started glowing, then it disappeared into thin air.
Rylie forced herself to look. Her shoulder's dropped. A feeling of dread washed over her.
She closed her fist. She interacted with them and laughed with them, and now they are dead, all because of the witches!
"They really are savages." Elder Tristan's voice dropped dangerously low, and his statement came with a growl.
Rylie forced herself to look, but she felt nauseous. This is the first time she saw a dead body, and now she can finally look at it. Her stomach started churning.
"Let's not dally here." Lina stood up and rubbed her hands together. "I will not forgive them. They knew that as witches, we should be living in harmony with werewolves and humans. They should be stopped."
Rylie nodded her head, and Aly, Elder Tristan, Elder Lola, the other pack members, and the other witches. Oddly enough, she thought that Aly would say something to Lina as a retort, but nothing came. Aly must have been so angry.
She can clearly see how Aly's fists are closed, and her jaw is tightening.
They walked towards the pack's location and what Rylie saw there made her eyes tear up. If there are dead bodies on the ritual grounds. There are more on the pack's site. Some of them are the border patrol of the pack.
Rylie felt Aly's hands become slack, and before she could stop her. Aly ran towards the body and crouched. Aly's eyes closed in agony, and her teeth gritted. She closed her fist, and tears started falling on her eyes.
Sh*t! Rylie knew what Aly felt. She is also closed to the border patrol team. When she needed someone to talk to. They are always there to listen. But now they are dead.
She looked at all the body, her hands fisting.
She held her head up to stop her tears from falling. Her chest hurt from trying not to cry.
Rylie hoped that Mace, Hanna, and Kelly were okay, or she wouldn't forgive the witches.
We will never forgive them.
Her wolf's voice sounded like a snarl inside her head.
"Sh*t!" Aly stood up and cursed again and again.
Rylie wants to go to Aly's side and comfort her, but she knows that Aly needs to release the tension or she'll go into battle with a hothead.
"T-This is the damage they had done?" Lina looked around, and Rylie could see the disappointment and pity in her eyes.
Elder Tristan hung his head low, and his jaw tightened.
He closed his eyes for a moment and shook his head. "They need to be stopped. Our people are in danger if they annihilate all of us."
Aly slowly stood up, face dark with anger. "I will kill them one by one!"
"A-Aly." Rylie went towards Aly's side and held her shaky hands. She doesn't want Aly to stoop down low with those scum of witches.
There has to be a better way to stop the witches from killing the werewolves. If only she could ask her father what to do. He would definitely know-how.
Rylie squeezed Aly's hands. Aly squeezed her hand back and lifted her head up to look at Rylie. Aly has a soft look on her face, but Rylie can see the anguish and sadness Aly felt. Maybe it's because they are mates that Rylie can mirror what Aly is feeling.
"Let's hurry. We are wasting time." Lina approached Aly with a determined look on her face. "I will trace Carlos's magic, and let's plan our next attack on them once we locate their location."
Aly nodded her head and looked towards the house of the Alpha. "We will rescue the pack and eliminate the witches. It's time we take an offensive stance rather than take the defensive side. Let's give them a dose of their own medicine."
Rylie's heart started beating fast. How could they defeat the witches? They are more powerful and can use magic, whereas the werewolves are just physically capable but lack magic? She can't help but imagine that this mission is gonna be a tough one.
They all entered the house of Carlos's family, and Rylie found out that Carlos became an asshole because of his own father. A beta that ran away and chose to become a rogue wolf because of a second chance mate. So Carlos is the only one who is trying to bring back their previous Beta glory.
Lina took the cloth from Aly's hands. They all looked with waited breath as the piece of clothing floated in front of them. It swirled in the air after Lina put a vial of blood on the cloth and chanted unfamiliar words into it.
Rylie looked on with amazement as the cloth glowed and started moving in a direction outside of the house. They all followed and looked in the order it was pointing.
The cloth is pulling towards the southern part of the pack's location. It was where the border patrol always came home after the trap they set to hide their traces.
Aly and Rylie looked at each other. So that's where the witches were able to locate the pack's location and the ritual area.
