(Rylie's POV)
"Well, something is just bothering me, Kelly." Rylie rubbed her hands together. "If you depend on weapons instead of your magic and your abilities to transform. Why haven't you evolved to be just humans?"
They just finished shooting guns and playing with swords. When Rylie opened up the topic.
Kelly squinted her eyes in the distance and pursed her lips. "That's a difficult question. Actually. It's like a prey-predator kind of thing."
"Uh hmmm."
"Well. According to our elders. Magic needs sustainability. As a werewolf with magic in our blood, the witches need us for their spells and rituals. Our blood is fuel to their magic, so, no. We can't evolve into just humans. But we are fighting them back because they are taking our life too."
Rylie perked up from what Kelly said. "S-So you mean. Witches can use your blood to use magic but don't really have to kill you?"
Kelly nodded. "Yeah. But they started killing us after the witch trials a decade ago and apparently some of them turned into a necromancer. The one who I think studied dead people and created rituals and spells thru killing."
"I-I don't understand."
"I don't either. It's like the witches also evolve on their own. Especially after that rift between our kinds." Kelly sighed. "We began killing each other off. We can't settle into a peace treaty anymore."
"Well... if they need your blood for magic. Can't they perform spells and rituals without your blood?"
"Actually. They can. They have natural abilities concerning magic, but our blood enhances it. More like a---, a— "Kelly snapped her fingers in the air.
"Like a booster?"
"Yeah. That's it. Like a booster." Kelly smiled and pointed at her.
Rylie's heart began to pump hard. Being an archaeologist is paying her off. She needs to write it down in her journal.
Her father is one of her influences, yes. But she also likes to dig on stuff, know the history, and be the first one to put it down on paper.
She reached out her hands to cupped Kelly's face, and before the latter could react. Rylie kissed her on the cheeks.
"Thanks, Kelly. I need to go."
Kelly looked at her with a stunning face and muttered something under her breath. "Aly's going to kill me."
Rylie shook her head and chuckled. "Why?"
"I-It's nothing." Kelly grimaced and wiped her cheeks. "You can thank me, but don't kiss me on the cheek. Geez."
"Alright." Rylie smiled and took off from Kelly's cabin.
She runs towards the library, where she put her notebooks and her father's journal. She immediately sat on the stool and began to write down what Kelly said to her. After she finished writing it down. She took some books with her and headed for Aly's cabin to read.
"So. You finally came home?" Rylie looked up from reading when she heard the door creaked open, and Aly walked in.
"Yeah. This is my cabin, remember?"
Aly took off her jacket and put it in a hangar beside the door.
"Last time I check; you are avoiding me." Rylie put down the book she was reading."I'm sorry. Tomorrow I will be the one supervising your training. Let's go somewhere else. We need a big space for the fight."
Her eyebrow furrowed. "Why?"
"Because I am going to transform, and you will have to fight my wolf."
Rylie's ear began to ring. She can't believe what she hears from Aly.
Then is her wolf that big?
Aly must have noticed Rylie's wide eyes and shocked expression. Aly nodded her head.
"Yes. That's how big your wolf is going to be."
"No shit!"
"Get to bed. We will be early tomorrow." Aly smiled at her.
Rylie blinked.
Aly is different today.
She followed Aly to the bathroom. "What happened today? Why are you happy and you decided to come home too?"
"No. Nothing happened. I just found my resolve, that's all. But I'll still tell you about what I said after the ceremony."
Rylie groaned and leaned on the wall opposite the bathroom door. She can see Aly from where she is and forces herself not to look when Aly begins to undress, but she can't. Her eyes are glued to the beautiful view in front of her.
Her body began to heat up, and her face got hot.
She can see those curves and those flawless skin. Her hands twitched. She badly wants to touch that bottom.
"I can feel your desire from where I am, Rylie." Aly stopped and looked behind her left shoulder.
"Y-Yeah, sorry." She forced herself to look away and scurried away from the bathroom. She put a hand to her heart when she was safely inside the room to the bunk bed.
"I'm such a messed and a peeping tom." Rylie breathed out.
She tried to go back to what she was reading, but her eyes would always land on the open door, waiting for Aly to show up. Her heart hasn't stopped beating since she bolted out of there.
"Hey. Rylie?"
She quickly put the book on her face when she saw Aly strolled inside, drying her hair. Aly didn't see her because she was angled so that a person coming inside wouldn't see her head.
"Are you asleep?"
Rylie didn't respond. She just breathed hard, waiting for Aly to say something. But she can smell Aly's shampoo from where she is. Especially when Aly leaned in.
Rylie felt her body tensed up, and her palms began to sweat. Shit! Aly can smell desires, and right now, her body is giving out precisely that. Her body is burning up. She wanted to reach out and just kissed Aly on the lips. Something was beckoning her to.
"I-I know you're not asleep, Ry." Aly took off the book on her face and looked at her with softness in her eyes. "Do you have a crush on me, or do you like me more than that?"
Rylie sat up and avoided eye contact with Aly. Her heart doubled its pace, and she felt like she was going to stutter if she talked. She can't even look at Aly's body because she's not dressed yet!
"Look at me, Rylie."
Rylie closed her eyes hard. But she opened them quickly when she felt Aly's hands on her chin. Her eyes widened when Aly made her face in her direction.
"We have to address this issue with Alpha Gab. Once you got your wolf and you can fully transform. You have to choose."
Rylie stopped for a moment. "W-What do you mean?" But she thinks she has an idea of what Aly could mean.
Aly smiled, and Rylie was mesmerized. Shit. Rylie, get a hold of yourself! She mentally slapped herself. Aly is talking in riddles again! Damn it!
"I liked you too, Rylie Scott."
Rylie's eyes bulged out when Aly leaned in to capture her lips. She was stunned when those soft lips landed on her own. Her heart stopped beating for a moment before it came back faster and louder.
Aly is finally kissing her!
But before Rylie could deepen the kiss. Aly moved back.
Rylie's face felt so hot. She can't look directly into Aly's eyes.
"Sleep well, Rylie. See you tomorrow." With that, the blue-eyed walked out of the room after getting her clothes from the drawers. And Rylie was left on the bed staring at Aly's figure.
