Rylie's POV
"Hey. Thanks for helping me out." Rylie smiled at Aly, and she remembered their awkward moment outside the bathroom door.
Her smile turned awkward, and she turned away from Aly's face as they walked on the way to Aly's bunkhouse. She remembered how her mouth dried and how her body's temperature rose up. Now she can't get the image out of her mind of the way Aly looked at her too. She knew that look. Even if Rylie was naïve and don't have any idea about a relationship. She knew the look of lust. But she knew too that Aly suddenly changed her mind because of how she turned away. Rylie won't press for anything to happen if Aly isn't ready.
"It's nothing. I am responsible for your well-being too, and I didn't properly give you a sparring partner to test your skills." Aly turned her whole body towards her. "Then I'll be your sparring partner tomorrow. So be ready."
With that, Aly stepped into the house ahead of her. Rylie can't help the smile that etched on her face as she followed inside.
She stood in front of the bed and looked at Aly. The latter is looking at the ceiling with a smile on her face.
"You are seriously going to spar with me?"
"Yeah. I am." Aly turned her head towards her. "But I want you to know that tomorrow is gonna be Alpha Gab's 22nd birthday. They all wait for her to find her mate, and you know we all are different in that aspect. Others find their mate early, and others find theirs in their old age. But usually, it comes around when you reach 22."
"And speaking of that. How old are you?"
Rylie looked one last time at Aly and laid on the bed on the lower deck.
"Well. I am 21 years old. But turning 22 tomorrow."
"That must have suck. You have the same birthday as the Alpha, so how do you celebrate your birthday?"
"Well. Alone drinking."
"I could be your buddy if you want me to."
Rylie can't help the smile that came showed on her lips when she heard Aly chuckled.
"As if you could hold your alcohol. Can you?"
Rylie shook her head and stopped when she realized that Aly can't see her. "No. I don't think so. I don't drink alcohol, actually."
"Then you're not good enough to be a drinking buddy. I suggest you mingle with the pack to see what traditions we had. It could be entertaining, you know."
"Then I'll try to mingle, but I'll see what I can do for your birthday."
Rylie slowly closed her eyes to sleep, and she didn't hear what Aly said because her eyelids become heavier, and she drifted off to sleep.
--------------------
"Are you excited?" Aly gave her a sideway glanced as they eat bacon, eggs, and bread in the morning.
Rylie noted the happiness in Aly's voice, and she scrunched her eyebrows. "You are pleased today. Excited to beat me up?"
Aly threw her head back, laughing at what she said. Almost dropping the bread off the table.
Rylie just shook her head and bit into the bread she put bacon in.
After breakfast, the two of them went out, and Rylie's eyes grew big when she saw the preparations made by the whole pack to celebrate Alpha Gab's birthday, and she remembered what she said to Aly last night.
"I could be your buddy if you want me to."
"No. I don't think so. I don't drink alcohol, actually."
