(Rylie's POV)
Time is even against her. Summertime is almost over, and she has to go back to her university soon.
Rylie sighed as she closed the notebook Kelly gave her. It was her father's journal, and his accounts during his captivity in the were-witch's hands are all written there and garbled words about the powerful mind link a werewolf has. The formula for the two vials was there, but it didn't make sense to her. There was also the part where her father counted the days and celebrated her birthday in his way.
It's all sad that her father had come to do what he did to survive. The memories of her loving father are replaced with someone unrecognizable inside her mind, and she can't separate the two thoughts.
They still hadn't figured out how to bring the children back to normal. Lina didn't talk to her. She screwed the whole thing about trying to find a way to re-create the vials. That day, their oath to Lina's coven prevented them from stepping into the witches' mansion. And Aly...... well, Aly puts some distance between them because of what she did.
"Are you ready to go back?"
Alpha Gab sat with her on the swing where the pack's children used to play. The Alpha looked ahead and focused her attention on nothing in particular.
Rylie sighed and shook her head. "I'm not. I don't know how to fix this mess my father made. The were-witches are still out there. Macey and the other kids can't return to normal, and the vials are missing. I—I don't know what to do, Alpha Gab."
Alpha Gab smiled at her and just like before. The woman in front of her still affects her because of their mate bond, albeit it was just because the Alpha was her second chance mate. But it was still there, waiting to be tapped.
"We'll figure it out. Werewolf always have."
"Well..." Rylie stood up. She remembered that she also needed to read about the Lobo form her wolf has. She wants to be strong to defeat the next enemy that will show up at any time. "I gotta go. There's something that I need to research on."
"Oh. About the Lobo form?" Alpha Gab bit her lip, and Rylie looked away to stop herself from being tempted. "Legends are all that you could find in there, Rylie. I thought that it was a legend, too, until now. If you could document what you are doing to hone it. Maybe we could all access that form."
She nodded to Alpha Gab and put her hands in her jeans' back pocket before making her way toward the library. But she suddenly stopped when she saw Aly. She looked back to where Alpha Gab was and realized that from this vantage. Aly could see them.
Jealousy was shown in Aly's eyes, and Rylie flinched. But she didn't do anything wrong or make a move at all. Alpha Gab came up to her, and they talked like friends. There's nothing that she should be guilty of.
"I-I'm going to the library to read about the Lobo form."
"Yeah, sure." Aly sidestepped and made way for her.
Aly wetted her lips and almost brushed past her when she walked. Rylie's eyebrows were knitted. What does Aly want?
"Rylie... I'm sorry I shouldn't have said that to you. I---- "
But Rylie stopped her right there. She doesn't want anything to distract her from researching. As an archaeology student, she had been distracted lately with all the training and taming her werewolf. But now she can do it. She will have to power through to return to her family.
Were-witches are still out there if they don't do something about it. People could be in danger.
"Aly.... Let me focus first on finding a cure and researching the Lobo form. I-I'll talk to you." She whispered the last part, and her wolf whimpered. Mate.....
