Kelly's POV

Kelly looked around her, and the people lowered their gazes. Are they terrified of taking action? She closed her fist. The witches deprived these people of hope, and now they are just waiting for their death.

Hanna and Helga also looked cautiously at the woman and children around them before flopping down where Thomas was.

Kelly sighed and bit into the apple. She needs her strength if she wants to get out of here alive.

Her eyes followed the witches when they took the tray out. She observes them. How many of them are guarding the door, and how often do they come inside?

Two witches are guarding it, and one comes by to give them food. Then two others will come when taking a child or a woman away.

She looked at Thomas, and he smiled at her. Kelly looked at the bread she was holding and offered it to him, but he shook his head. He gulped and looked away. It seems that he wants the bread, but why is he not taking it?

"S-Sorry. I get like this because they made me eat after all the prisoners here eat."

Kelly's eyebrow furrowed. "What did you do that made them hate you like that?"

Thomas shook his head. "I-I don't know. M-Maybe it's because my loyalty is with the werewolves, and they don't like that."

He rubbed his hands together and looked at the door as if waiting for something.

Then two witches suddenly came in and gave Thomas a tray of food. He bowed his head several times, saying thank you, but the witches just smirked at him. They didn't walk away like they usually do, and Kelly tried so hard not to look them right in the eyes. She's afraid that they will punish her or bring her where they take the other prisoners if they notice her staring.

"Eat up, old man. Hurry up." One of the witches crouched low and shoved the bread into Thomas's mouth.

She saw how the old man almost teared up. Kelly closed her fist tightly. She wants to punch them and kill them, but if she does it now. No one will be left for Hanna, Mace, and Helga.

She bit her lip hard to stop herself from lashing out.

Thomas had been reduced to being their plaything, and there's nothing she could do.

The witches laughed when Thomas finished his food. Then they yanked both of his arms to get him up. Thomas cried out in pain; apparently, they had forgotten his chains. They unlocked the chains before jerking him up again.

Where are they taking him? Kelly looked up, and her eyes met with one of the witches. She quickly looked away when she saw him smirk.

Sh*t! They need to get out of here fast!

"P-Please.... Don't take me there. I swear! I am going to be good. Please!"

Thomas shouted when he was at the door, and he held on to it for dear life. Their eyes met, and Kelly's tears fell down on her left cheek.

I'm sorry. Thomas.

"No!"

She heard him shout before the witches pried his hands-on holding onto the door. Kelly's knuckles became white from closing it tightly. She looked away and tried to drown Thomas's voice out.

"W-Where are they taking him?" Hanna's voice trembled, and Kelly could see that the two women were equally shaken.

She was shaken too as she stared blankly at the door where Thomas exited. There's a possibility that the old man will be really gone for good. She held her right hand when she noticed that it was shaking.

"W-We will get out of here. I promise." Kelly tried to reassure them, but Hanna and Helga anxiously looked at the door. As if at any moment the witches will come and take one of them away.

What would Aly do in this situation?

Then she remembered the notes Thomas gave her.

She looked around her to make sure that no one was paying any attention to her. Then she took it out from her pocket and stared at it. The small notebook was worn out, and it was already faded. She flipped into the first page. A handwritten note that she couldn't quite read stared right back at her.

Sh*t! She needs to decipher some of them if she wants to find out what it means.

She flipped to another page, and she breathed a sigh of relief. It was written in the ancient werewolf's language.

'Magic came from nature, and werewolves can shapeshift with their desired form, a wolf. How to unlock the killer instinct? Should you let the wolf take over?'

'No. It will overpower the human side and kill even the closest ally.'

'As I observed, werewolves both need the human side and the wolf side to unlock the killer instinct. It comes from a mutual trust between the human and the wolf.'

'They will become faster and stronger than a powerful witch.'

Kelly rubbed her temple. Thomas is writing in cryptic again. She won't be able to know what it meant even if she tried. Is there no valuable thing she can read in the damn notebook?

She flipped again to another page. There she saw the exit route he was talking about. But she doesn't know what the outside looks like. She just needs to memories the symbols for the place where they are and start from there.

She traced the mark from the facility to the outside. Her mind tried to imagine what it looked like. But it was really hard. She closed her eyes for a moment.

"What is it, Kels?" Hanna looked at what she was reading, and Kelly shook her head before giving the notebook to Hanna.

Hanna flipped it several times, and she also shook her head. "We can't depend on this if we don't understand any of it."

"But we can memories it and see where the possible exits are." Helga put her hands out, and Hanna gave them to Hunter's wife.

"But the interesting thing is. Thomas put a quotation in his notebook about a werewolves' instinct. Does it ring any bell, Helga?"

Helga shook her head. "This is also the first time I had heard about that concept, but if Thomas wrote that, maybe he has some basis."

"Yes. He isn't an archaeologist for nothing."

Actually, Thomas is an archaeologist and a scientist. It was known to the werewolves, but Thomas is not fully practicing the last profession.

"Alright. I will memories the exits." Helga shook the notebook.

Kelly's eyes widen. "Are you serious?"

"Yes. I am also a part of border patrol in my previous pack, but I vanished so---"Helga shook her head and stopped before she could finish her sentence. She didn't look up to meet Kelly's eyes.

Kelly knew that the woman had secrets, but they all had secrets. Aly came from Raven Crest Pack and killed her own family, and Kelly doesn't hold it to anyone. She even has some of her own.

"I will try to observe what the others are doing, and we will get out of here."

Hanna and Helga nodded their head before looking at Mace's face. At that moment, Kelly knew they were thinking the same thing. The witch shouldn't be able to take Mace away from them.
