"Are you alright?"

Rylie rushed to the side of her grey wolf. She kneeled and inspected its whole body. The wolf opened its right eye and looked at her. She was making a side eye, and Rylie swore she also saw how it rolled its eyes.

"Oh, just broken bones. Nothing much." The wolf gritted its teeth. "I can heal it in a few days. Just don't transform when I'm healing, or you'll feel my agony too."

She let out a breath of relief. "At least you are not dead yet, and I am not without a wolf."

Her grey wolf chuckled. "Go. You have subdued it for now. But next full moon, I need you to train harder. That Black wolf will only get stronger because it already knows your strategy. We need to change our strategy next time."

"A plan without a plan is my speciality."

The wolf chuckled.

Rylie nodded her head and tapped the wolf's head one last time. Before running towards the river bed. She needs to step into the light again to wake up. When she crossed the ray of light, she immediately opened her eyes, gasping, and she was greeted with the hoots of the night owls.

She dusted her coats off and looked around. The full moon was still on the horizon, and she was still alone in the dark. If she was still a child or she had no magic. She might have been afraid of the dark, but her eyes are now sharper than ever.

She narrowed her eyes when movements caught her eyes.

Rylie let out a breath of relief when she saw a deer. She put a hand to her chest and looked around. She's glad no one stumbled upon her when she performed the ritual.

Thanks to her pendant, too that the witches didn't detect her. She closed her hands on the pendant, and a sad smile crossed her lips. The elders did the pendant, and now they can't replicate it, now that the elders are dead. They must learn the ways from the other tribes who still have their pendant-making traditions. She'll put it in her journal to make a book for the whole pack.

'Let's go back.'

Rylie nodded to what her wolf said. She took hold of her coat but winced when she remembered what her wolf said. Her grey wolf is still injured from the fight, and she can't transform until she heals.

'That's a problem.'

'What?'

'Are you an idiot? We can't transform because you are injured, and I need to go back.'

She could feel her wolf inside, rolling her eyes.

'Then walk. You can protect yourself, right?'

Then an idea came to her mind. 'Could we mind link Aly to get us?'

'Not bad, human.' The grey wolf was silent for a second. 'That's a good idea. Call for our mate.'

'Aly? This is Rylie. Can you get me?' She told Aly the exact location.

'Why? What happened? Are you injured?'

She heard the concern in Aly's voice.

'U-Ummm, no. I-I'm not able to transform. I'll tell you the details later.'

'Alright. I'm on my way.'

After that, Aly didn't say anything. She tapped her foot on the ground with every minute that ticked by.

Where the hell is Aly?

The time passed almost 20 minutes. She threw her hands in the air, looked at the road ahead, and swore under her breath. No cars were passing by, and there was fog too. She will have to walk if she had to.

Just then a gasping white wolf appeared in front of her and transformed right before her eyes. It was Aly.

Rylie bit her lip when she saw Aly's naked body. But then Aly must not have noticed her expression and wore the coat she brought with her.

Aly's eyebrow furrowed, and she quickly a shoulder on Rylie and inspected her.

"What are you doing here?"

The blue-eyed woman looked around and had a confused expression on her face.

Rylie looked behind in the darkness of the forest and winced. Should she tell Aly? Or only half-truths? She decided to tell the latter.

"I-I'm trying to control my Lobo form. I don't want my mother and grandma in danger when it awakens, and I can't stop it."

"I thought you were injured." There was clearly a troubled expression on Aly's face, and she gestured to the road ahead and the forest behind her. "This is a remote area. What if the were-witches saw you?"

Rylie lifted her pendant and showed it to Aly. "I have this."

"Even with that, you know we are not invincible. If they see you, you're dead." Aly sighed and went towards her and hugged her. "I won't forgive myself if ever something happens to you. Promise me that you will call for me."

Rylie nodded her head, and she couldn't help but inhale deeply. Aly had a pleasant smell, and she felt so safe inside it. Maybe this is the comforting thing about being mates with each other. One touch, and she would just relax.

"So, why can't you transform?" Aly took a peek at her face.

Shit. Rylie cursed inside her mind. Aly doesn't have to know that she fought the Lobo form inside her mind and that she must battle it to take control of it.

'Oh, my Goddess. We can't let her know that we fought the Lobo form. She'll press for questions!'

'I-I know. Let me think for a minute!'

She bit her lip and closed her eyes for a second. What kind of excuse should she say?

"W-Well... It's just that my wolf is injured, and if I transformed, I'd feel the brunt of it."

Aly's eyebrow crossed. "W-What? How did that happen? Then why don't you have a broken bone right now?"

Double shit! Rylie exhaled a breath. Her wolf is right. Aly will press for answers.

"I-I'm just can't transform right now. I'm exhausted from controlling the Lobo form."

Aly looked away and pressed a hand to her forehead. "Alright. I know you don't want to tell me. If you are ready, please tell me what happened. The truth. But for now, I'll let you off the hook."

'Your plan backfired. Now she knows that you are hiding something from her.'

Aly turned her back on Rylie without a word, took the coat off and transformed.

"C-Come on, Aly."

But Aly didn't say anything and just defiantly turned her back on Rylie. Rylie sighed and climbed on top of Aly's back. She gripped Aly's mane as soon as Aly took off.

They rode off in silence. She knew she hurt Aly's feelings, but she couldn't tell her the truth. It was hard for her not to tell Aly, but she needed to keep this to herself because she knew Aly wouldn't let her do this.

Aly just doesn't want to risk anything. And she's afraid that Aly told her not to do it. She'll do it in a heartbeat even though there's life at risk and there are so many things that they need fixing.

Sometimes she wants to curse her life. But if she didn't make the choice that she made, then maybe she won't find Aly or find the Light moon pack at all. She would go on with her boring life and try to chase the good in everything that her father did.
