(Rylie's POV)
The feeling of running like an athlete with extra speed has its benefits. Rylie can feel the calm wind rushing to her face. Her hair swaying in the wind, and her body is light. She enjoys running because of her heightened senses. It's nothing in the world she ever experienced.
"It's amazing, isn't it?" Alyssa faced her and opened her arms out. "This is the best feeling in the world, running into the forest, being carefree."
Rylie nodded. Yes, it is. But she's afraid her grandma and her mother will indeed worry. Her grandma probably knows by now that she went missing again. She will get grounded for the rest of the summer. What should she say to them?
"C-Can you do me a favor once we get to your elders?"
"Yeah, sure." Alyssa looked at her with a furrowed brow.
"I—I....my grandma Pep probably know that I went missing again. Can you just tell her I'm safe?"
Alyssa looked at her and stops, so Rylie did the same. "You really are a hopeless case. Well. I want to help you, but first, tell me your name."
"I-It's Rylie Scott. My grandma's name is Pep Scott."
"It's a beautiful name." Alyssa smiled at Rylie, then inclined her head towards the direction they were heading. "We will call her once we get there. But it's you who should call. She will not believe me if I talk to her alone. Let's go?"
Rylie nodded. Aly has a point.
They run in the direction Aly pointed. Rylie's mouth formed into an 'o' as she sees the same symbol written on the paper hanging on her neck, onto the ground. They are etched on a marble surrounding the whole path! It was written in a black color that she assumes to be blood since Alyssa said that it wasn't effective without it.
"This is amazing!" Rylie slowed down and came to a halt when Alyssa did the same. Her eyes scanned the whole area. There were trees around, and it is beautiful. It seems to glow in the dark.
"This is our pack. Welcome to Light Crest Moon pack."
Oh my gosh! Rylie thought. She has to jot it down to her journal! But damn it. She remembered that she left her bag and the Totem on the ground. Her face became ashen with the realization. She has to cram so much information on her brain if she didn't see some papers on the wolf pack village.
Plus, it would be hard with her hands like this. Rylie put both of her hands out and disappointedly look at her claws.
She sighed.
"Here we are!" Alyssa turned around and face her. "We don't usually allow humans here, but technically, you are not human anymore."
"What?" She looks up, and her eyes widen. "What do you mean not human anymore?!"
Her hands began sweating, and her heartbeat started to beat faster. She's not human anymore?
"Well." Alyssa scratched her head. "I shouldn't say it to you. The elders wouldn't let me share the information because they are not sure what to do with you."
Alyssa stops for a moment and puts a hand to her ear as if being hurt. "Y-You see. They mind-link me of the potential danger of letting you in, but the witches will get a hold of you if we don't intervene so, here we are." Alyssa cock her head to the side.
"I'm not a threat." What the heck did she get herself into? These werewolf people will not accept her if she says the wrong things. She changed her mind! She will not do what she intends to do in the first place. She just wants to be normal again. To be human again!
"Well. My pack will decide that."
Rylie properly looked at her surroundings. There was no house or people. There were only trees and lots of trees. And yellow glowing lights on the dark bushes behind every tree. Then her eyes widen when she realized that they are all eyes. Just like what she saw in the forest that day when she met Alyssa and at the barbecue her grandma arranged that morning! Who is the wolf that went to her that day?!
She took a step back when a massive pack of wolves began emerging out of the forest. Their stares are intense as if scrutinizing her.
"Don't step back, Rylie. They won't harm you. They'll just sniff if you have bad intentions or not. And also determined what type of role you will be playing in the pack."
She closed her eyes tightly and waited for them to sniff her. She stood still as she felt a breath on her face and arms. They smell like musk but a good kind of musk mixed with herbs. Other wolves smell like flowers and wild berries, which made Rylie relaxed.
She opened her right eye and looked around nervously. Her heart thumping against her chest.
"W-Well....did I pass?"
She looked around the whole area, and the wolves were gone. Like they just vanished into thin air.
Alyssa smiled at her. "You passed, but you just need to endure one more. Being a true werewolf is not easy. You will get claws, and fangs and the last thing to endure is being a werewolf. A state of being a man and a wolf. You will have an insatiable appetite for flesh and blood."
Rylie's eyes widen in realization. The proper form of werewolves is actual wolves with a huge body mass and 6 feet tall! So that means...... She looked at Alyssa's face. "Y-You spied on me! You are the yellow eyes I saw on the bush in my grandma's backyard. W-Why?!"
Alyssa bowed her head. "I-I'm sorry, Rylie. It was a command from our Alpha. I need to get the totem back, but you absorbed its magic before I could do that. Now the totem is useless, and I have to bring you here."
"W-What?"
Rylie felt her world sunk, and her shoulder dropped. Her life would be easier if she let Alyssa get the totem back. Why did Alyssa didn't just tell her to give the totem back? Because you will not agree. You are only using the totem for your own agenda—Rylie's conscience bit at her.
Shit!
Alyssa stepped towards her. "Rylie. When you transform into a werewolf. We need to restrain you. You cannot control your hunger alone; that's why we are in a pack. To protect each other from humans and witches. The werewolf that fed on humans is rogue. They can't control their hunger and are targeted for it. It marked us a murderer; that's why we go into hiding. Please let me help you."
Rylie looked up and saw the sincerity in Alyssa's face. The truth is Rylie has nowhere to go for now. Now that she's a werewolf. She could trust them than the witches.
"O-Ok."
Alyssa nodded and held out her hands to help her up. "Let's go before the time runs out."
Rylie held Alyssa's hands and stands up.
The blue-eyed woman leads her to a narrow opening inside the woods. There she saw several houses that are close to each other. The homes are located circularly, and in the center is an open field where a symbol on the ground can be seen when you walked towards it. Several people were looking at her. There were people in the houses that have their windows open just to see her. It was also the first time that Rylie had seen a dim light on each house.
