Bulldog JR

I have no idea where the fuck Kyler is, he said he was going to make his rounds and go and see the Sarg and see if he had decided to talk to Carly about what we had mentioned to him.

I had insisted he wait until the games were officially over but Kyler, well Kyler is Kyler and does things his way. He never listens, no wonder his father sent him here five years ago. He needed to listen to what people were telling him and not ignore them or question them. If he did, it could lead him into danger.

Kyler has learnt a lot here in the past five years. After the first two, we both trained to be part of the army core and the regiment that was stationed here. Our parents were proud of us. My father had retired from the army some years ago and trained hard to become principal of Carly's school, where he'd drill in that respect is earned not given and respect those who respect you. Respect your elders and they'll respect you. Respect your peers and they'll give you that same respect. It seemed as if some of the pupils had lost their way.

Carly was fortunately not one of them. What I'd heard of this guy who'd been bullying her; Alijah, was one of those who had no respect for anyone around him or any morals.

We'd all heard about why Carly's mom was here. Both she and the guy involved managed to turn themselves around; now they're happily married with two children. Like the saying goes, father like son and I think that's very true in most cases. Alijah's father was a bully and now he is. The replica replays his father's misdoings, ones he asked for forgiveness for.

Somehow, I don't think his son will be apologising to Carly anytime soon. Especially with him being at camp Hemmingway with Ethan.

That guy has got a big fucking chip on his shoulder. No one dares ask him anything about his father or they'll be in intensive care.

Many have tried and realised their mistake when they have woken up in hospital wondering why they were there. Plain and simple, never ask Ethan about his father.

We all know he hates his father with a passion but he's never disclosed why and we don't intend on asking him. Let's hope he doesn't take this chance to do something stupid. We all know he's been eating for the day when he will see Carly in the flesh, face to face, to make her life a living hell because of her mother. We don't know the entire story. I don't even think our sergeant does either.

Kyler strides up to me with a smirk plastered across his face. Looks like he's been laid damn impressive if he can sneak out unless it's one of the campers. Ew.

My stomach churns if he has. He'll be in shit if our sergeant finds out. "I thought you were going to see the Sarg?"

"Was had no need."

"Really why?"

"Ran into Carls on the way she filled me in about the chat they had."

"And what was that chat about?"

"He offered her a job as a camp counsellor."

"Really?"

"Damn straight, she begins in the summer and gets all the training here first."

"Damn." I grinned wickedly. "We need to celebrate."

"No shit Sherlock."

"Where's Carls right now?"

"Headed back to her cabin to catch some z's. Sarg made her get up early to see him."

"I bet."

"We'll celebrate once everyone is in their huts for the night. After supper, we'll go down to the cellar and get some booze."

"You're a bad influence, Kyler."

"Takes one to know one."

"Truth state."

He smiled, grinning wickedly. We'd all get shitfaced but we'd have to make sure the Sarg didn't cotton on or we'd be reprimanded for recklessness and underage drinking. Pft.

Carly

I'd finally got some sleep and felt a lot better for it. I'd showered and relieved myself before dressing in my combats, oversized t-shirt and trainers. Mom had never been a great fan of what I wore but I was sending out a statement to all that if they didn't like what they saw they could fuck off they didn't have to entertain me with their presence either way.

Josh just chuckled and told mom to leave me alone. I was just growing up and I'd eventually grow out of it. Like hell, I would.

I joined the others in the dining hall, sitting next to Charlie, who asked what I'd been doing on our day off. I told him I'd slept most of it.

He smiled sweetly and we had little conversation throughout supper. He seemed a bit off, not his normal, chatty self with me, which I found weird, but I brushed it off. He was a guy after all. We said goodbye and went to our cabins.

Soon there were lights out but I kept mine on low. It was one of my phobias growing up.

A tapping at the door woke me from my slumber. I groaned, who the hell would be at my door this time of night? The tapping came again, this time at my window. I groaned, opening my eyes, the sight of Kyler and bulldog JR grinning from ear to ear meant they were up to no good. "Come on Carl's let's go, everyone is sleeping."

Urgh.

"We'll meet you by the door. Hurry up."

Double Urgh.

I threw my duvet off and slid out of bed dizzily when my head finally stopped spinning. I slipped into a jumper, underwear, socks and jeans, I slid my feet into my boots, trudging over to the door. I opened it stepped out into the night sky and showered with the lighting across the campsite. "What took you so long?"

"Got dizzy."

"Don't get up so quickly then!"

I rolled my eyes, closing the door behind me. "Why the hell are you guys waking me up in the middle of the night?"

"We come bearing gifts." Bulldog JR said as they both held bags up the glass clanking.

Oh no, they hadn't got booze, had they?

"Come on, Carls. Let's go and celebrate your new job."

"I need training first."

"Yadda yadda."

They both looped their arms under mine and pulled me with them.

"Where are we going?"

"You'll see now shush."

"Aye, aye, captain," I said sarcastically.

They tutted and continued to pull me until we got to the cliff and cast down the night sky filled with pink hues. It looked like we were in for a good day tomorrow.

I hoped they knew what they were doing. The games were this weekend. I'd have my first-ever hangover.

They placed the bags down and pulled out some bottles of beer, opening them and passing one to me. "Congrats Carls. You are the first girl in the camp since your mother to impress a sergeant."

"And thanks to you guys, I know you put in a good word for me. It means a lot to know you respect and trust me enough to put my name forward."

"Our pleasure, Carls, you've come on leaps and bounds since you first arrived here. First, beating bulldog's times now by being a great team leader and listening to a fellow camper about their difficulties. We've all seen an improvement with Charlie and it would never have happened without you, so congrats."

We clinked bottles, taking swigs out of them. Swigs turned into gulps, gulps turned into bottles as we laughed and joked as the sun rose.

Damn, we'll be in so much shit.
