Carly
Christmas was hectic as usual with two extra mouths to feed Mom was extra stressed she was usually stressed this time of year. But she was more stressed than normal even with Jonathan and Kyler offering to help her. We had sat in the living room, the coal fire burning brightly and the Christmas tree in the corner all lit up. Mom seemed to add more and more decorations each year. Even more knick-knacks that weren't even necessary even if she thought they were. She simply stated that once we grew up and left home she had no need for the festivities of it all until she had grandkids. We had all heard this before, but Kyler and Jonathan hadn't and they had choked on their brandy. We all laughed. It may not have been funny to us but it was to them.
We all gave each other presents and had Christmas dinner whilst chatting at the dining table which was the best part of it. Once lunch was over we all retired to the living room and watched Christmas movies that we'd all seen a million times before but this year felt different, this year it felt better I had my two best friends with me and they got on well with Kaden. Which was a plus. I had never seen him so relaxed around guys older than we were. They had made him feel welcome at the camp and put him through his paces one day payback would be a bitch. I knew it, Kaden knew it, but Jonathan and Kaden didn't know it. I knew what kaden had planned for a career whereas they didn't. It would come as a surprise to them both when they realised that my brother could finally outsmart them and beat them at their own game.
Jonathan and Kyler stayed until the day after boxing day. They were both heading home to spend New Year with their family. They both hugged my mom and thanked her for letting them stay and for her hospitality and the best Christmas dinner that they had ever had. Mom blushed and told them that there was no need to thank her. She had enjoyed their company and they had better manners than Kaden and I put together. I looked at Kaden and we both rolled our eyes.
They shook our dads hand and thanked him for allowing them to stay and put up with them. He graciously smiled and said it was like having two more wins at the house. They fist-bumped Kaden telling him they couldn't wait until he came back to the camp and they would show him a thing or two he told them he couldn't wait.
They both looked at me and squashed me into a bear hug. "Thanks for inviting us, Carly bear."
"Thanks for coming."
"Well see you back at the camp. In March."
"You will."
They pulled away. "Well miss you Carly gear."
"I'll miss you too."
"Don't forget to bring Kaden to the camp during the summer."
"I won't."
"Thanks for having us again Mr and Mrs Kingsley."
"Please call us Hope and Joshua and it is a pleasure."
They smiled and they got into the Jeep honking the horn and pulling away waving.
We all waved back watching the car go down the food until it disappeared as it turned out of the street. "Let's go in, there's a lot to do before the new year."
Ugh.
Kaden looped his arm with mine and we headed inside.
Instead of getting stuff sorted for the New Year, we all dropped to the sofas unmotivated.
I hadn't once seen or thought about Aiden in all the time Jonathan and Kyler had been here. If he wanted to see me that bad he knew where I was. I needed more than a pathetic apology to make things right between us.
"Is everything okay Carly poo?"
I looked at Kaden and smiled. "Nothing."
"He's a fool Carly poo, once he comes around he will realise what an idiot he is and he'll grovel to you."
