Forgetting Aiden

Able

Carly's parents were really great. It was just a pity I had to leave once we had eaten. My mom would never forgive me if I wasn't back before Christmas. She hated tardiness and her knowing that I was spending time with my cousin, his friend and a girl from college wouldn't sit with her at all.

"Thanks for having me, Mr and Mrs. Kingsley."

"It's been a pleasure, Able. Are you sure you won't stay for Christmas?"

I wish.

"I would love to, but my parents are expecting me back for the holidays."

Pity.

"I understand you're more than welcome to come here with Carly any time during any of the holidays."

"Thank you. I may take you up on that."

She smiled brightly and hugged me. "Take care of yourself, Able."

"I will Mrs. Kingsley."

She pulls away and Josh shakes my hand. "Have a good Christmas young man."

"I will. Mr. Kingsley, I hope you both do too."

I wave goodbye and we all head out to my car. Carly pulls me into a hug. "You could always stay Abe. Mom always makes plenty."

"I'd love to, but my mom."

"The best reason why to stay."

I chuckled while hugging her. She's the only one who understands how much of a bitchy bitch my mom really is. Jonathan hadn't seen her in years so he hasn't been there to see the extent of her bitchiness toward me. It's like I can do no right for doing wrong.

Aiden

I step out of the house. I haven't seen much of the Kingsleys lately, not since Carly left for uni. I haven't seen Kaden around much either apart from the odd, I counter at college the dead stares that prompt you to stay the hell away from him. But today is not my day. I need to go to the store and pick up the rest of the presents for Christmas and there she is in all her glory hugging a guy that I've never seen before. I gulp. I guess she's moved on. He pulls away, and he looks like the same side of the coin. He is like Carly in so many ways. She moves away and goes to shake hands with who looks like one of her army friends, Jonathan, I think, but he takes him into a bro hug. I'm not surprised he's here, he's like a little lost pup around her, just like Kyler. Then he pulls out the bro hug and guess who's there too? Yep you've guessed it. Kyler. He shakes the guy's hand, brings him in for a bro hug, then let's go.

I stand like a damn idiot watching. The unknown guy gets into the car and closes the door; they all wave as the car pulls away. For one split second, she looks over, and her eyes land on me. "Carly."

"Aiden," she says coldly, like I'm inferior to her. I can't say I blame her. I ended things abruptly. Thinking it was best for both of us. Maybe, in a way, it was as if she'd truly found happiness.

"Come on guys, let's get back in this cold out here."

"Sure, Carly Bear."

I grit my teeth. I hate them calling her, and they may find it funny, but I don't. Kaden found it hilarious, too, until they called it him as well.

I stormed over to my bike and swung my legs over it, placed my helmet on, started the engine and rode away. My parents gave me some stick about wanting a bike instead of a car, but I didn't listen, and I saved up and bought this baby. Once I have a well-paid job, I'll get a bigger and better one. For now, I have to do with this baby.

Christmas day was no better than any other same shit different day. Mom and Dad were all over each other. Yuck. Get a room, guys. Liam was still behind bars cause of his asshole father. I hope that one day they'll have something to pin on that asshole prick. He doesn't deserve to be out on the streets when Liam is doing time for his stupidity. Carly was unharmed, and she told the judge and jury the same, but they didn't believe her.
