CarlyI looked over at Jonathan. He looked pale and out of sorts he hadn't seen himself for a few weeks now but I didn't want to pry it was his business if he wanted to share it with me he would. But today was different from the others.
He was struggling with something but I wasn't sure what was happening in slow motion as Caspian honked the horn, a new thing he thought would be better than a gunshot. I guess but ng at war he didn't want to fire a gun cause it might startle them and take them back to where they had come from but looking at how disoriented Jonathan was. I don't think the hospital was such a good idea after all.
It all happened in slow motion. One minute he was standing there pale, the next he dropped like a sack of shit to the ground. I began to run over to Jonathan, Kyler and Star following behind me. I slid over to him cradling his head before it hit the ground with an impact that would either leave him brain-damaged or dead. Kyler and Star skidded over. Caspian looked too shocked for words. He began shouting. "Someone get the paramedics here stat!"
A few of their platoon ran at speed past us. I was still cradling his head, tears in my eyes. "Please Jonathan be okay."
I felt two hands on my shoulders. "He'll be okay, Carly Bear. Once he's taken to the camp hospice we'll find out what's going on."
I nodded, not quite convinced Jonathan had been acting weird the past week kind of distant. I'm not sure anyone had noticed, but I had. The team from the hospice arrived asking everyone to move out of the way so they could lift Jonathan onto the stretcher. They did as they were told and the team slowly lifted him into the stretcher and tightened the straps around him.
"Can I come with him?"
The paramedic nodded.
"I'm coming as well."
"Me too."
"I'm coming."
I looked at Caspian. "You need to finish the first of the games, Caspian."
He nodded knowing that there were still campers out in the water so he had no choice even if he wanted to be there for Jonathan.
We all went to the hospice and sat in the waiting room whilst they took Jonathan into the room and made him comfortable before doing a series of tests on him so they could find out what had caused him to just drop like he did.
"Do you think he's going to be okay?"
Kyler smiled. "He's a tough cookie; he'll come through whatever he's going through. He placed his hand on mine. "Trust me Carly Bear, we've been friends a long time and he's the toughest guy I know.
Kyler
As I said the words I didn't believe them myself, Jonathan is the toughest soldier I know, but there's only so much a soldier can take before he breaks. I've only seen him break once before and he got through it. I'm not sure he can get through it again. We weren't even supposed to go back out on the field once we agreed to come here, but unfortunately, they decided to call upon all those eligible. Conrad got off easy there was no one to take his role on at the camp so he got to stay where he was most happy. He never liked the fieldwork involved in the army. He was more of a on the side of kind of soldier that is why he never got any further in his career.
Unlike Ethan, he was out there on the battlefield with us doing what he knew best to fight alongside his brothers and take down the enemy god knows how he's doing after the sights we saw whilst in Africa. I am struggling to come to terms with the shit I've seen over the past year there I would rather forget but my brain hasn't quite got the gist of switching it off yet. I'm not sure how Caspian is coping. But I know for sure Jonathan isn't coping with the shit that happened and the shirt we saw whilst we were in Africa, it was supposed to be friendly and we were only supposed to be there to give the locals supplies and keep them safe against gangs then it turned out to be a full-blown war.
