CarlyThe month soon flew by and I was all packed up and ready to go to my new job, my new career. I was looking forward to it even if I have many insecurities about working alongside Ethan. Everyone had made valid points for me to take into consideration. I'll just have to keep my eye on him. He never seemed interested in me one bit before. Maybe it was because of his hate for my mother that he made himself hate me too. But things changed after that tragic day, one I will never forget. We may have sorted through the reasons for him doing what he did but I'm far from trusting him, completely trusting him. If three people who are closest to me can see what he hopes to gain from this then I trust their judgement and will be on my guard and not fall into his trap. I hope I'm strong enough not to. I really want things to work out between Jonathan, Kyler and me. I really do but something keeps holding me back ever since Jonathan cheated. I can't seem to get it out of my head. What if he does it again then where does it leave me and Kyler?
I'm so confused right now. I want to do right by the relationship. I hope this is a step in the right direction, not a wrong one. Then it will all be for nothing apart from the fantastic opportunity Ethan is giving me.
Kyler and Jonathan look at me as I enter the lounge and smile briefly. I give a tight smile. I'm really nervous this morning. I haven't worked anywhere but the damp and centre where I met Jonathan and Kyler when I turned sixteen.
I'm almost twenty-five and have nothing to show for it. We are all workaholics and even though we've settled down with each other I still think that there's something missing something that wouldn't have been missing if a certain person hadn't messed up in the first place we'd been a happy family by now with maybe one or two kids running around, but would have that even deterred Jonathan into having an affair?
No one can answer that, not even him.
I sit down nervously at the table, nervously and begin to eat.
I feel someone squeeze my leg. "No need to be nervous, angel you'll do just fine," Kyler says, smiling
Jonathan squeezes the other leg. "He's right Carly Bear, you'll knock 'em dead."
"So you're both okay with my decision now?"
"We want you to be happy, Carly bear. We know you want to do something more challenging and the camp can't give you that, this job can."
"We may not be happy about who your boss is but we're happy you're getting a chance to expand your qualifications and help a wider spectrum of people and we're sorry we snapped, we just don't want to lose you."
"You won't, it's just a job, one I'm very nervous about."
"There's no need to be Carly Bear, you'll be the best counsellor they'll ever have, trust us."
Kyler nods and they both kiss me on either cheek.
I smiled and we finished our breakfast and headed out to work. Kyler and Jonathan both pulled me into a passionate kiss before I headed off to work. My new job I hope I didn't mess up too much.
I pulled up at the two-story building, one I had never seen until today it was big and bright. I killed the engine and took a deep breath in and out. I can do this.
I took the keys out of the ignition and opened the car door and closed the door pressing on the alarm before dropping my keys into my bag.
I walked up to the door and buzzed in on the intercom stating who I was and why I was there.
The door opened and Ethan stood there smiling. "Carly, welcome to Heavens Grove. Follow me and we'll fill in all of your paperwork and get you an ID and key so you don't have to buzz in."
I smile and thank him for stepping in. He closes the door and gestures to me to follow him. "We have top security here Carly so you are safe and secure at all times."
I nod and we enter what I assume is his office. He closes the door and offers me a seat. He sits next to me and goes through the contract of work with me. I listen to him as he goes through everything. I nod to let him know I understand and then sign the document then he does the same. "You know Carly I'm quite surprised they allowed you to come and work for me given the circumstances."
"They weren't too happy but they got over it."
"Well go and get your photo ID next and I'll show you your office. Most of the individuals that come here come around nine thirty to ten so if you're here for around nine go through who you are seeing for the day and their profiles. It would be great."
I nod.
"Let's get this photo ID done and I'll show you around then we'll go to your office."
"Okay."
He smiles and we pull ourselves up. He opens the door and we head out of his office. He closes and locks the door and we head to another office where my photo is taken and I'm given my ID badge. "Make sure you wear that all the time so everyone knows who you are and what section you work in."
"Okay."
He smiles and we walk out of the office and he shows me around the extremely large building. When he's finally done we're both out of breath. He smiles. "And this Carly Evans is your office." he grins widely. I see my name on a plaque on the door stating "counsellor" Underneath it is a lot shinier than the one I had before.
He opened the door and I gasped at how large the room was. It's at least four times the size of my office back at camp and the centre.
"You like it?"
"It's huge."
He grins. "I wanted you to feel at home and that room you were in was barely an office, more like a storage room. Everything you need is here for you."
"Thank you."
"No need to thank me, Carly, I should be thanking you for agreeing to the job."
I smile at him. He looks at his watch. "Come on, I'll introduce you to the rest of the crew and we'll have a coffee before everyone arrives."
"Okay."
"Follow me."
I follow Ethan through the long corridor and tune right to what I assume is the cafeteria. "This is where we have our lunch."
I nod and he ushers me to follow him. He ordered two coffees then we added our sugar and headed out and he introduced me to the rest of the staff who were all very friendly.
We head back to the offices. "Oh before I forget," he says, pulling an odd-looking key out of his pocket. "This is your key to get in and out of the building and this..." he says pulling out a sheet of paper. "Is the code to get in all the different areas of the building that have security doors."
"Thanks," I say to him, taking them off him.
"Like I said before, everything you need is in your office. All the records for today are on top of the desk and the times for each of the individuals you'll be seeing today."
"Thanks for this opportunity, Ethan."
He smiles. "I knew you would be perfect for this position Carly no thanks is needed."
I smile and head into the office and close the door. The files are where Ethan said. I place my cup of coffee on the placemat and sit down. I sigh I hope I don't mess up or I'll be out of a job sooner than I can say cheese on crackers. I pick up the first fien and read through it.
