Carly
The ride back to camp was a short one and a very quiet one. Bulldog Jr and Kyler were talking nonstop to me but I had zoned out wondering what would happen to Liam. He had been out of prison for almost twenty-four hours and in less than two he would be back inside if I didn't do anything to stop it.
I stared out of the window. The trees were all a blur as we drove passed them like we were on a race track doing over a hundred when in fact we were doing thirty. You haven't listened to a word we've said have you?"
I looked at Kyler dazed. "Sorry, I've got a lot on my mind right now."
"It's okay, Carls, we understand. I'm not sure if your parents will, or his. They're going out of their minds with worry."
I didn't doubt that for a second.
"You need to tell them everything, Carls. So they can understand why he did what he did."
"I'm not even sure myself. Well I sort of am, but I'm not sure if it's my place to say anything about the he shit he shared. If you get my drift?"
They looked at each other and nodded. "We do, but we're not sure if they will."
I sighed knowing all of them, they wouldn't.
They wouldn't want to hear what a manipulating piece of shit our father was and how he had treated his own son. If he treated Liam like a worthless sack of shit growing up how would he treat me? His daughter he'd never seen?
There were so many questions swirling around in my head. Needed answers to. Liam needed to respect my decision and leave me to decide if the sperm donor was worth it or not. I knew a liar when I saw one I knew a pariah when I met one just as I had with Ethan's father, he didn't like being called out on his bullshit neither would this soldier.
The car pulled up at the camp and we all got out and looked around. I gasped, noticing we weren't that far away from the camp. I can't believe we were a half hour away by car, maybe two hours on foot. I think Liam knew how close we were and decided to keep it to himself so that he had more time with me which gave him more time to convince me not to hear our sperm donor further out. "How did you find us?" I asked curiously.
Bulldog smirked. "You can see for miles over the lake. I just happened to be looking over the lake thinking of ways to find yours truly when I spotted the smoke rising from the cabin. Kyler gave me his night goggles. It's really surprising what you can see through them." He coughed. "Any who. you get a clearer vision through them and I was able to tell that the cabin was lit up and there was smoke coming out of the chimney. We went to Caspian right away and explained everything and headed out at sunrise."
I nodded, keeping us warm and starting a fire had been Liam's downfall to his plan that would have failed and come crashing down in front of him if he had chosen somewhere that wasn't as close to the camp.
We headed over to the office where my mom and Josh stood. My mom ran over to me wrapping her arms around me and hugging me tightly. "Breathage."
She chuckled and pulled away. "Don't ever do that again."
"I won't."
"What were you even thinking?"
"It was Liam, Mom."
"I know sweetheart, but it wasn't very clever of him was it?"
I shook my head.
"Shall we take this into my office?"
Mom nodded.
"Follow me."
We all followed Caspien. He opened the door and mom followed him in. Josh squeezed my shoulder. "Everything good, shortie?"
