Carly
I'd slept for almost seven hours considering I couldn't sleep at all until I went to the lake and sat beside Bulldog Jr and had a heart-to-heart with him I felt relieved that he wasn't going to make a big scene out of this until after the last of the games which happened to be today. I was nervous. I'd never got this far in anything like this before, okay we'd been on vacations and my mom had both kaden and I doing stuff like this because she thought it would bring me out of my shell to make friends, but unfortunately for her it hadn't.
She had tried desperately to understand why I was unable to make friends. I was a freak that's why. The only friends I ever had were Kaden and Aiden though they were part of my fam, they were the closest I had to friends my own age. Liam and I were close though he was three years older than I was. He understood me better than Kaden and Aiden ever would.
He'd gone through the same notions as I had with us being step brother and sister or whatever the hell we were, we had the same father and different mothers. Unlike Kaden and Aiden who had a biological bond to both parents. I'd never felt comfortable calling Josh my dad though he was there for me more than my biological dad had ever been. I got that sense from Liam as well. He barely knew our father since he hadn't grown up either. He'd been a shadow of a man. Caleb was though, he'd come into his life when he was three he'd always been a permanent fixture, someone to look up to to call a father, unlike ours.
We'd bonded over our sperm donor and he'd always been there for me even if he'd done some pretty reckless things over the years with his not so good friends that he'd been warned to stay away from because they were all bad news. He hadn't listened to the warnings and had ended up doing a lot of bad shit with his not so charming friends that were nothing but trouble and had got him put inside for the past few years.
Thanks to him keeping his head down and out of trouble he'd been granted early release which was in approximately two months time. When I was finishing my exams. I couldn't wait to see him and tell him everything that was going on. He'd never expect me to be a badass just like he was. I hadn't spoken or written to him in a while. He'd asked me to keep the gossip for when he got home. So I had done just that.
A knock rattle on my door. "We're ready angel we need to get to the other camp for the finally."
I groaned how I could forget we had to trek over to the other camp for the last part of the games. "I'll be with you in a sec guys."
"How did she know it was both of us?"
I shook my head laughing as Jonathan retorted. "She knows we both come together, dufous."
"Maybe one morning we won't."
"That won't be anytime soon, Ky. You don't trust me alone with Carls and I don't trust you either."
"Not true."
"I call it bullshit."
I drowned out their arguing heading into the bathroom to freshen up and revive myself before dressing and heading out to meet them. They straightened themselves and smirked at me. "Ready, angel?"
"I am, are you done arguing?"
They raised a brow. "Who? Us? Never."
I chuckled. "Come on, let's get this over and done with."
"Are you not looking forward to today, angel?"
"Not really." I sighed.
"Everything is going to be okay , trust us, we've done this course a thousand times before."
I stared at them.
"Okay maybe not a thousand times, but enough to know it like the back of our hands."
"He's right, Carls, we'll be there to make sure no one takes the wrong turn."
I nodded, not quite convinced but it made me more at ease with the whole thing about going to the other camp knowing my arch nemesis would be there and unsure what he had planned after his warning yesterday. At least Jonathan had promised me to keep it on a low until after today and for that I was truly grateful.
We met with the other campers and army commanders. "I hope you're all ready for the final day of the games."
We all groaned as Caspian grinned widely. Did nothing faze this giant?
"I hope you all do well today no matter who wins, you're all winners and knowing you've tried your hardest is a win in itself. But saying that I'll be amazed if we win this year. Camp Hollingway has won the past few years. Let's see if we can change that aye?"
Everyone grumbled nodding before Caspian ran through our names to make sure we were all accounted for before getting on the minibus and headed to Camp Hollingway.
We arrived around twenty minutes later meeting the camper at Camp Hollingway.
Ethan stood with three others including Alijah. Ethan looked over at me, his stare cold and calculating it made me shudder, I had no idea what I had done to him but the way he was glaring daggers at me told me I'd soon find out.
"Ignore him angel, he's always had something up his ass. He's a sneaky fucker that's how he's won every year so be careful he'll have you off the track and in the deepest part of the woods."
I nodded and swallowed hard feeling lethargic. I'd heed the warning Jonathan gave me but I knew there was more to this than winning. He wanted me to go down and counter up some revenge on me for something that I wasn't in control of or knew anything about.
Caspian's voice boomed over the microphone snapping me out of my thoughts and fears.
"Good morning everyone, it's a great day to end the week and the final day of the games. Everyone that takes part in the last and final stretch of the games is well done for getting this far and those who haven't better luck next year. That being said there are two parts,to the final games this morning will be the first part and the second part will be this afternoon those who don't come in at the specified time will be on the sidelines for the afternoon Cross Country event. This morning will be a varied obstacle course you'll be taking part with a camper, from the opposite team. The Obstacle Course is 500 metres long with 20 obstacles which include: Rope ladder; Double beam; Trip wires; Crawl; Stepping-stones; Vault; Balance beam; Sloping wall with rope; Horizontal beams; Irish table; Tunnel and twin beams; Four steps; Ramp and ditch; Low wall; 2m deep Pit; Vertical ladder; High wall; Zigzag balance beam; Chicane; Three low walls close together.
This afternoon there will be a cross country course that will take you through the forestry and around the perimeter of the camp and bring you back here. You'll be put with a selected runner from your own camp. There will be officers at each stage to make sure none of you have gone off course. All that's left to say is good luck everyone and enjoy yourselves,it's not just the winning that counts, it's the taking part.
He stepped away from the microphone and everyone was called out and was partnered up with someone from the opposite camp I was paired, with a guy I'd never etc but knew his face he was a friend of Ethan Hollingway's great, just fucking great thsi was all I needed I swear they're doign this on purpose, first Alijah now this guy.
He looked at me and smirked. I rolled my eyes.
"Lieutenant Donnington."
He even sounded like a smug asshole. "Carly Evans."
"Oh I know who you are sweetheart."
I gulped, this was worse than I thought.
