Carly

I can't believe they roped Able into coming home with us. His parents are going to be so pissed even if they had told them first-hand. I've heard a lot about Able's parents, and it's not all good, let me tell you. If my parents were like him, I would hang myself, especially if my mom was like his. She's a complete bitch and reckons he can't think for himself, let alone make decisions for himself. I mean he's twenty-two for god's sake and a brilliant musician, but she thinks he can do so much better with his life than doing something he is passionate about. She thinks he should be set behind a desk from nine till five or whatever time a respective businessman works to get deals done. I hate her already. If that was my mine, I would tell her to chill the fuck out and life her own life and let me live mine. But one day Abe will grow a pair and tell her how it is, and she won't know where to put her face that day. That day I would love to be a fly in the wall and see her reaction.

"Will Kaden be home?" Jonathan asked, taking me out of my thoughts.

I shrugged my shoulders. "I'm not sure we kind of parted on not so good terms before I left to come here."

"I'm sure it'll be fine, Carly Bear, you two fight all the time, and it all blows over in the end."

Not this time, I think to myself.

Abe

I followed Jonathan towards Carly's home. I hope and pray to god my mom doesn't start her bullshit when I return home she's sweet to anyone she's talking to but behind their backs, she's satan in disguise. She'll be cursing Jonathan for upsetting her perfect timetable and what time, what is done, where we should be, at what time and where we shouldn't.

She plans everything to the last detail. Everything has to be perfect and if someone messes with her agenda, God help them. I hope Carly's mom isn't like mine. I couldn't take another control freak in my life.

I pulled up behind Jonathan after about an hour's drive in front of a three-story building that was lit up to the max.

We all get out of the cars, closing the doors.

"It looks like your mom has gone all out this year, Carls?"

"Dad, more like." she mutters and they laugh.

They looked at me. "Come on Able, you'll like the Kingsley's. They're down to earth."

I nodded and followed behind them. Carly opened the door, and we followed them. The smell of roast wafts through the house.

Carly

"Mom, Dad?" I shouted as I placed down my suitcase.

"In the kitchen, sweetheart."

"Okay."

I nod to the guys and gesture to them to follow me. They all follow behind they haven't bought anything in with them as they'll be leaving as soon as Christmas is over. So I guess they'll grab some stuff out of the boot.

"Mom, Dad guess who came to uni and is here now?"

They both turn around and smile brightly. "Jonathan, Kyler, it's good to see you both again."

"You too, sir, ma'am."

"Oh hush. Come here and give us a hug."

They both give mom a hug and shake Dad's hand.

"And who's this young man?"

"Mom, sad this is Able. Able my mom and dad."

"Nice to meet you Able."

"You to ma'am, sir."

Mom pulled him in for a hug, which shocked us both. Dad shook his hand. "Such a polite boy. But you can call us Hope and Josh. There is no need for formalities."

"Sure."

"So how do you know our daughter?"

"Daadd."

"It's okay Carly," he said, then looked at my mom and dad. "We met at school through a mutual friend."

"I see. I hope you weren't at any parties Carly?"

"No. Dad, my roommate's sister, introduced us."

He hums as if he doesn't believe my lie.

"So which year are you in at university?"

"My last."

He hums again that this isn't going to go well. They weren't too pleased that I was friends with two guys over nineteen.

"So what are you studying?"

"Business sir."

He stares at Able. "Sorry Josh. I'm studying business even though I studied music at college."

He nods. "Your parents chose your career path instead of you. I find that interesting we would never let Carly or Kaden go to anything that they didn't feel comfortable with. You should follow your heart, not what others expect of you."

He nods understandingly.

"Would you like to join us for supper?"

"If it's not too much trouble."

"None at all."

"Shouldn't we wait for Kaden? He should be home soon."

"He's not coming home for Christmas honey."

"Oh."

"Bummer, he's a cool kid, and he could've met Able."

Mom forced a smile. "Maybe next time."

They all smile. "Sounds like a plan."

"Would you like to help me in the kitchen, Carly?"

"Sure Mom."

She smiles.

"Come on boys, let's go into the dining room and get better acquainted."

"Sure, Mr. K."

Dad shook his head, and they all followed dad into the lounge. I followed mom into the kitchen. She looked at me. "So Able?"

"He's just a friend's mom."

"One who is four years older than you are."

"So are Kyler and Jonathan, but you're okay with them."

She nodded. "I don't know what happened between you and your brother Carly, but the day you left he did too."

"What?"

"He was angry, and he told me things I hoped you would throw out once you hit puberty, and he went to a private school and became interested in other girls."

"What are you talking about Mom?"

"We saw a change in him when you were around six, maybe seven. He looked up to you Carly. He always wanted to be around you."

"He was my brother."

"He had an obsession with you, Carly. When he turned eleven, we sent him to a private school. We always tried our best to keep trying both of you apart. We hoped he would stop the silly crush he had on you, but instead, it made him more determined to be with someone he could never be with. We hoped when he finally went through puberty he would forget about you and move on, but we failed you. I'm sorry Carly, your brother has an unhealthy obsession with you; he loves and wants you like a brother shouldn't."

"Does dad know?"

She nods.

Well fuck

"I'm sorry, Carly, it wasn't our decision for him to leave. I talked to him when your father left to take you to uni. I've never seen him like he was that day, Carly. He was so disconnected."

I swallowed."Where is he?"

"At a friend's place and he's staying there until he starts uni."

I nod.

"I'm sorry, Carly, I asked him to come for Christmas to sort this feud out between both of you, and he refused."

I swallowed my building up reads I never thought would ever come to this. I guess I'll be doing it this Christmas without Kaden.
