Charlie
I hated to do this to Carly, but I had agreed to help Ethan out because he wanted to take her down a peg or two now I was beginning to regret agreeing to it all. I liked her, she was so easy to talk to. I can't believe I'm going against everything I hate in my life, about my life. If we weren't related I would've told Ethan to go fuck himself. Carly wasn't as bad as he had made her out to be. I even think Conrad has something for her, he's a sadistic asshole and he gets off on chicks who are sarky and witty which are both parts of Carly's characteristics. I've seen it many times between her squadron Leader Hayes and Stanford. I had noticed how all three of them got on how close-knit they all were apart from the age gap I sure hope no one else has noticed.
I looked at Carly, knowing what I'm about to do will build a bridge between us and I'll lose the only friend I'd ever made here. She'd be so disappointed in me when she found out the truth.
She may never speak to me again and think I had lied to her all along to get close to her for the sake of Ethan's dumb plan. I'm seriously regretting being involved right now.
They have no idea what I'm going to do once their dumb plan takes effect if they throw me out of camp so be it but it will be worth it. I've never been able to stick up to Ethan before and now the tables are going to be really and truly turned.
"Are you okay Charlie?"
"Mmm?" I snapped out of my thoughts. Looking at Carly.
"Are you okay Charlie, you seem miles away?"
"I'm time across, I just hope I don't disappoint you."
"You can never do that Charlie. I trust you."
I smiled weirely.
Carly
There was something off with Charlie today; he didn't seem like his normal self. But I could understand he didn't want to let me down. He had shown everyone he was better than they thought he was. Now he wanted to prove to me he was as good as or even better than our opponents who happened to be Alijah and Ethan. I gulped that I didn't like this not one bit. His other ranking officers were running with us and some of the other competitors from our camp we had to stick together. We were stronger than the others from our camp.
I had yet to be put up against Ethan until now and I was scared. I was dreading the outcome of this race. He was stronger and faster than I was but if what Bulldog and Kyler had said was true, this was the time he was going to cheat in the last and final race so far we had drawn but I'm not sure he looks more athletic than me.
He looked over at me and glared darkly at me. I didn't like the way he was looking at me. It was sending shivers down my spine and not good ones.
Caspian blew his whistle and shouted across the camp with a megaphone letting us know to take our places. I looked at Charlie and smiled nodding. He returned my smile and we headed over to the starting lineup point where not only I had that Ethan guy glaring at me but Alijah too.
I had a feeling deep down that something bad was going to happen, but I pushed it away as we got on our marks and waited for the gunshot before we were running with everything in us.
We ran through the woods following the rope path laid out and the arrows Charlie kept up until we had run for at least four miles and he started to lag.
"Come on Charlie, you can do it."
"Carry on Carls. I'll catch up."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes," he said, breathing heavily. "You go on, I just need a few. I'll catch up to you."
"If you're sure."
"I am, now go."
"Okay don't get too far behind, prove to everyone that you can do it."
"I will Carls, now go on or our opponents will take the gold again."
"I won't," I said, continuing to run on. I knew Charlie wasn't the best runner I knew, but I also knew he could do it.
I continued running and there were another five or so miles left. I hoped he would catch up soon. Suddenly two runners ran beside me. I looked at both of them and gulped, why were they running beside me and not their running partners?
"Hey, Evans, thought we might join you seeing as our partners are lagging and so unfit, unlike you." He said winking.
I rolled my eyes.
"We haven't been introduced yet. I'm Damon Mcalaghan. Or Lieutenant Mcalaghan."
I smiled briefly.
"So Evans, how to do you like Camp so far?"
"It's okay."
"Just okay?" They exchanged smirks.
"Yeah, Just okay."
"Are you sure it's all can't okay? You seem pretty close to Hayes and Stanford."
"The Sergeant paired me with them."
"Are they treating you well?"
"Just fine."
"Have you learnt anything from them?"
"Yes, I have, what's with the twenty questions?
They suddenly stopped. I looked around where the hell was we? This wasn't the trail back to camp. I began to get nervous. Was this all a ploy to get me away from the others and lose the games to Ethan?
"We can teach you better than those two ever could."
I gulped. This was high school all over again but it wasn't Alijah and his goons this time it was these two goons who thought they were the upper hand but they were sadly mistaken. I'm not the girl who got bullied for who she was anymore. "What do you want?"
"For you to join us here, at our camp we can teach you how to take care of yourself a lot better than those two nonces they only think with their dicks."
"And you don't?"
"Well, I guess you're going to find out aren't you Evans?"
"I don't think so." I turned to run and Mcalaghan caught me holding onto my arms tightly. "That's no way to treat your superior officers Evans."
"News flash jerk, your not my superior officer, so fuck you!"
"Mmm you were right she is a feisty one." he looked coldly at me. "Well from now on I am and you do as I say, Evans."
"No, I don't, let me go."
His grip tightened. "Lose me asshole."
"I don't think so Evans, we have unfinished business."
"No, we don't. If you don't let me go I'll scream."
"Scream all you want honey no one will hear you."
We'll see, shall we?
I opened my mouth and began to scream. A hand went over my mouth, the handkerchief over my nose made me woozy, my eyes closed with my final thoughts of shit what are they going to do to me?
