Carly
Christmas has finally come around. The camp is closed for the festivities and won't open again until March so I'll be gaining my experience by going to where the other counsellors work with the children from camp. It's a large facility where the children will do their school work and mingle. We will be there for them everyday so they can come to us and talk about anything that is bothering them and to do catch up sessions with them.
After I return in January it will be my first one to one of the year and I will be assessed on how well I'm doing with the kids and what I need to do to improve. The counsellor I've been assigned to is impressed with me and how well I've taken to the role of a children's counsellor. It's not an easy job but I try to be creative and work outside the box. I tell them a little about myself and why and how I ended up at the camp the first time. It gets the ball rolling and they start to east themselves into the sessions a little at a time. I'm proud of myself for getting the kids to open up about their lives, their fears and goals. We have two weeks off for Christmas and most of the children here are going home or visiting relatives for the holidays. I haven't seen Kyler or Bulldog Jr for a few weeks during the transactions to the centre but they are coming home with me for Christmas and will be heading home Christmas night to see their families.
It's the last day before Christmas break and the kids are getting picked up and the counsellors and I are getting handshakes, hugs and presents not only from the kids here but the parents who are grateful for our help with them without us they weren't even sure that their children would pull through all of the trauma they had been through.
Once the last of the children say their goodbyes we finally close for the Christmas break. The doors are locked after the alarm is set. We all hug goodbye. The other councillors get into their cars and wave goodbye as they drive away.
He looks at me and smirks. "About time, Carly bear."
"Bulldog Jr? I didn't think you would be here."
"Well I am."
"Where's Kyler?"
The window comes down and a grinding face appears. "I'm right here Carly bear, you didn't think I would miss Christmas at your fams house, did you?"
"Nope. Just surprised you came to pick me up, that's all."
"We wanted to surprise you."
"You did that. My dad will have a pissy fit. He was supposed to pick me up."
He grinned widely. "That's why we called ahead and made him promise not to tell you we were coming to pick you up. He agreed after taking some time to convince him that we weren't going to run away with his daughter and we were coming for Christmas dinner."
That's dad. I'm going to have words with him about his betrayal to his not daughter.
"Come on Carly bear, your fam is expecting us."
I smiled and nodded. "And we both want a hug."
Of course you do.
I strode over to him grinning when I was inches away from him he pulled me into a hug. "I've missed you Carly bear. Things at the camp aren't the same without you."
"It's closed, you big oaf."
He chuckled. "Still ain't the same needs a woman's touch." He said squeezing me into him.
"Hey I want a hug too Jon, let her go before you hug her to death."
"I would never." He gasped, in fake shock and hurt.
He let go of his vice grip on me and I was suddenly being pulled into another bear hug. When did Ky get out of the car?
"I've missed you Carly bear, it's too damn quiet and boring without you." He said, kissing my cheek.
