CarlyWe arrived at the campus and I must say it was huge. I'll be staying in the dorms for the first year, then venturing out and renting a place near the uni, hopefully. But, first I need to find a job that will cater for my needs, so I can come here and do my assignments as well as work.
The drive has been relatively quiet on the way here apart from dad asking me what's going on between Kaden and me and, quite frankly, I don't know. And that's exactly what I had told him. That we had a run in before I left and we hadn't resolved it. He nodded and helped me get my stuff into my dorm. "Things will get better, Carly. Kaden is a stubborn teenager just like you are, he'll come around, and you'll both sort it all out."
I nodded and smiled weakly, but I knew that this time there was no going forward after all the hurtful things that I said to him. I didn't mean them as they sounded. I was so angry that he took an opportunity to get inside me when I was at my lowest and tell me his feelings towards me. Ones I had no idea about. I knew we were both close siblings. But, this, this was on a totally different level. I have no idea how he's coping with all his built-up feelings towards me. I just hope he can focus on someone else and forget about me. We'll always be siblings, but I think it is for the best if we keep our distance for now, so he doesn't get mixed signals or make his feelings stronger than they already are for me.
We placed my things in my dorm room. "I think that's all of it."
Dad smiles. "I'm going to miss you kid."
"I'm not a kid dad."
He chuckles. "You'll always be a kid to me."
I shook my head. "Give your old dad a hug."
I smile and wrapped my arms around him. "I'm going to miss you Carly."
"I'll miss you too, dad."
"You know I'll never get used to you calling me that."
"Well, you're going to have to because that's how I'll always see you."
"And you'll always be my daughter Carly, no matter if your father isn't here. I will always be."
I hugged him tighter. "I know you will be."
He pulls away. "I had best head home. Carly, I've left your mom to deal with your brother. God knows what I'll find when I get home. Put your stuff away and remember no parties and no boys."
I rolled my eyes. As if "I promise dad."
"Good luck Carly, and I'll pick you up for the Christmas holidays."
"Okay thanks dad."
He smiles and hugs me one last time before he heads out of my dorm back to his car.
I open my suitcase and start putting my stuff away before my roommate gets here. I was almost down when a knock came to the door. I shrugged and went and opened it. A boy stands there with a megawatt smile on his face. "Hello."
"Hey, I'm Drake. I'm just doing my rounds to welcome all the new students."
"Well, my roommate isn't here right now."
He smiles. "Oh." He thinks for a while. "Never mind, I'm sure I'll see them around. It's a big place."
"It is."
"So what's your name?"
"Oh sorry. I'm Carly."
He smiles."Well Carly, welcome to Northampton University. I would like to officially invite you to the new students' party tonight at ten."
