Let's get into it

First Person POV - Y/n

"Do I really have to go back?" I asked Marlene.

Christmas and the New Year had passed so the day of our return to Hogwarts was coming closer, and truthfully speaking, I didn't really want to go.

Going back to school would having to deal with Umbridge, who had no doubt managed to force through another dozen decrees in their absence.

I just knew she had more restrictions placed on Quidditch and any wrong mistake I made would probably have me kicked off the team permanently...again.

I assumed it couldn't get worse than that but then, on the very last day of the holidays, I had been proved very wrong when I had been summoned to the kitchen with Harry and I saw Snape standing there waiting.

"Sit down, Emrys and Potter."

"You know," said Sirius loudly, since he was standing there along with Remus, Aboran, and Marlene, "I think I'd prefer it if you didn't give orders here, Snape. It's my house, you see."

"I was supposed to see you both alone," said Snape, "But the four of them-"

"We're their guardians," said Marlene annoyed, "Deal with it Severus."

"The headmaster has sent me to tell you both that it is his wish for you to study Occlumency this term," said Snape looking at the both of us.

"Of course he does," I said laying my head on the table.

"Study what?" said Harry blankly.

"Occlumency, Potter. The magical defense of the mind against external penetration. An obscure branch of magic, but a highly useful one."

"It's basically them trying to teach us how to keep Voldemort out of our damn head," I said sitting up, "Because he's possessing us since he has nothing better to do in life but venture through teenage minds."

"Y/n," said Uncle Aboran and I sighed.

"How often?" I asked.

"You will receive private lessons once a week, but you will not tell anybody what you are doing, least of all Dolores Umbridge. You understand?"

"The only thing I will be telling Dolores Umbridge is to f-"

"Y/n!" said Remus this time and I stopped.

"Who's going to be teaching us?" asked Harry, smiling at me.

"I am," said Snape.

"Why can't Dumbledore teach Y/n and Harry?" asked Sirius aggressively. "Why you?"

"Dumbledore would have to be able to look us in the eye to teach us," I said annoyed. "That seems to be an impossible task for him lately."

"I assure you I did not beg for the job," said Snape, eyeing me after my last statement, "I will expect you at six o'clock on Monday evening. My office. If anybody asks, you are taking Remedial Potions. Nobody who has seen you in my classes could deny you need them."

"And me?" I asked. "Everyone knows I'm not failing your class."

"You are there to help Potter for extra credit to secure the top student position in your house," said Snape and I nodded.

"Wait is that actually possible? Can I beat out Hermione?" I asked curiously.

"No, it is not a legitimate way. However, when you take your OWLs, the superior scorer will take the top student position," answered Snape and I nodded understandingly.
