Chapter Twenty-Three

'Nothing...absolutely nothing of any use for me...' (Y/n)sighed sadly as she looked through the different books on the shelf. Miraculously, both her and Sanji managed to find a book shop, and in hopes to find books that would be useful for her further research, she spent a good portion of the day looking through the different shelves in the bookstore. Sadly, (Y/n) soon realized that none of the books were targeted for medicine or had any information about poisons. The books were mostly some fairytales as far as she could tell.

'This sucks. I was really hoping I would find something.' (Y/n) sighed sadly as she put a book away, giving up on her search.
"Hmm..." She hummed, looking around the half-empty store, noticing that mostly children were inside and the cashier who was looking suspiciously at her.
'Crap! Walking out without buying something will be so embarrassing!' (Y/n) thought nervously before grabbing a random book from the shelf.
"What's this?" She hummed as she read through the title.

'Liar Noland? Is this a comic or something?' She wondered before flipping through some of the pages. Eventually, she landed on a random page and read the text.
'This is some children's book. Bummer that I couldn't find anything useful. Oh well, today is not my day.' She sighed in defeat before putting the book back.
(Y/n) decided to give up on her search and opted to leave the store and re-join Sanji, who was waiting outside the book store.

'He is probably bored out of his mind while waiting for me.' She thought, feeling a little guilty that she wasted his time for nothing. But, once she was outside, she came to realize that the cook was nowhere to be found. Nervously, she looked to her left and right, hoping to find Sanji, but nothing!

"Where did he go? Don't tell me he got distracted by women again." (Y/n) groaned, noticing all the pretty women walking by, already coming to the conclusion that he must have gone to flirt with some of them.
"That womanizer..." She sighed in annoyance and facepalmed, unsure where to even look for him now.
"He could be anywhere. I sometimes wish he was more like Luffy. All he cares about is food, and you know you will always find him in the kitchen-"
She mumbled to herself and turned around to go and look for the cook, but she ended up walking into someone instead.

"Sorry. I wasn't looking." (Y/n) laughed nervously and moved away a little to look at the person she walked into.
"It's very crowded-"
She stopped speaking when she looked up at the person who was staring back at her with the coldest look she ever saw on a person. Not even Crocodile had that look on his face, as far as she could recall.
"Hm? Crowded?" The man with long black hair repeated her words, causing (Y/n)'s eyes to widen a little,dread and fear filling up her body.

'Who... who is he? And why am I feeling like this now? Am I overthinking again?' She gulped and smiled, trying to play it cool. For all she knew, the man could be just awkward, and she didn't want to offend him or anything.
'The last thing I need is making enemies on an unknown island. I wonder if he is a pirate. He is dressed way too fancy to be one.' (Y/n) wondered as she inspected the man's black suit.

"So, shall we?" The man sudden question caused the girl to wake up from her thoughts and look up at him in confusion.
"What?" She blinked as the man sighed while a pigeon landed on his shoulder.
"I asked you to join me for a drink." The man repeated.
"Me? I mean, no thanks! I have to look for my friends. But thanks for the offer." (Y/n) said, slowly backing away from the man as he moved closer, an eerie smile creeping on his face.

"You sure? You don't seem to belong here at all. Are your friends pirates? I will help you find them."
(Y/n) felt herself tense up as the man put a hand on her shoulder. Panic started to grow stronger and stronger in her as the man's smile grew while the pigeon just kept staring at her.
'Why is it looking at me like that? And why is he fixated on me?' Gulping, she grabbed the man's wrist, startling him.
"I don't really need-"
"(Y/n)-chaan! I found some cute earrings you would like!!"
