Chapter 4: Small Goals
Sheng Wang knew exam day was going to be tough, but he wasn't prepared for just how brutal it would be. Every question on the test seemed designed to trip him up, and the more he struggled, the more hopeless it felt.
As he stared at the test paper, feeling completely lost, his classmate ben leaned over and asked, "How are you holding up?"
Sheng Wang forced a grin. "I might just fill in all C's on the multiple-choice and hope for the best," he joked, though deep down, baka iyon nalang ang gagawin ko. Pwede naman na mini miny pero baka mahalata ng teacher.
Ben chuckled softly. "That's one way to go. But seriously, you okay?"
"Not really," Sheng Wang admitted. "This whole thing is brutal."
It didn't help that Jiang Tian, sitting a few rows ahead, looked perfectly calm, like he had everything under control. Sheng Wang couldn't help but feel frustrated. "And look at him—Jiang Tian's breezing through this like it's nothing." At ang nakakainis pa, ang lakas ng paghinga nito. Para bang nanadya.
"Don't worry about him," ben said. "Everyone has their strengths."
Sheng Wang sighed, trying to stay positive. "Yeah, tama ka. But it's hard to remember that when you know you're bombing the test."
"Just do your best," ben encouraged. "This one test won't define you."
Sheng Wang nodded, hoping his friend was right. But in that moment, with the pressure and his rivalry with Jiang Tian weighing heavily on him, it sure felt like it did.
