Chapter 25: Capsize

"Why are you so panicked?" Jiang Tian asked, noticing Sheng Wang's unease.

Sheng Wang, caught off guard, didn't have an immediate answer. Meanwhile, downstairs, Clark had come home quietly, changed into slippers, and was moving around the kitchen.

The low murmur of conversation reached Sheng Wang's ears:

"Why didn't you announce yourself when you arrived?" lea asked.

"I need to head back," Clark replied. "It's a bit of a hassle."

" nag dinner ka na?"

"Had some plane food, but I'm a bit hungry. I'll find something."

"There's chicken soup. Should I warm it up?"

"No, it's too noisy, baka tulog na ang mga bata. " Clark said, wanting to avoid disturbing Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian.

As the house returned to quiet, Sheng Wang relaxed, trying to explain. "My dad is always chatty when he finds out I'm still awake. He'll nag about whether my homework is done or if I'm just goofing off."

He mimicked his father's voice: "He'll ask if the homework is too hard or too much and then start on about chicken soup."

Jiang Tian chuckled. "So, Dapat nga thankful ka, kasi nag aalala yung dad mo sayo..."

"Yeah, but he doesn't really care about my grades. He just wants to make sure I'm not stressed out. wait lang, bakit ayaw mo pa magbihis, dito kapa nag topless.."

Sheng Wang was momentarily speechless, his face flushing. "Shut up," he said with a grin.

Jiang Tian raised an eyebrow but agreed to drop it. Oh, He finished changing clothes.

Sheng Wang, shifting focus, pulled out his question bank. "Have you seen questions 12 and 13?"

Jiang Tian glanced at the book and sat on the windowsill. Sheng Wang kicked his slippers, trying to get his attention.

"Hello?" Sheng Wang said.

Jiang Tian finally responded, reaching for the book. "Show me the questions."

Sheng Wang handed over the book. "I'm stuck after writing the formula."

Jiang Tian reviewed it and said, "It's normal to get stuck. The last question needs understanding calculus."

Sheng Wang looked confused. "The university-level calculus?"

"Yes," Jiang Tian confirmed.

Sheng Wang was taken aback. "I don't have time to study that tonight. The monthly exam is soon."

"kaya kailangan mong galingan," Jiang Tian encouraged.

The next morning, the monthly exam loomed large. Sheng Wang arrived at school early, feeling confident. At 7:20 a.m, a boy with glasses came up to him.

"Is Sheng Wang here?" he asked.

Sheng Wang looked up. "Mrs. Sarah needs me? What's going on?"

"It's for an English competition. We need new papers," she said.

"Now?" Sheng Wang asked.

"Yes. Go to the printing room ," she directed.

Puzzled, Sheng Wang headed that way, There, two boys, neither in uniform, blocked his path.

"Sheng Wang, right? Do you know why we're here?" one of them asked.

Sheng Wang, unperturbed, replied, "I know."

The boy, taken aback, demanded, "What's the reason?"

Sheng Wang grinned and said, "You're here to get beaten up."

With that, Sheng Wang swiftly took action. The boy fell to the ground, and a scuffle ensued. Sheng Wang managed to fend off the attackers, but his uniform was stained, and he had some cuts.

Finally, Sheng Wang arrived late at the exam room, looking disheveled.

"Report," the invigilator said sternly. "Why are you late? Where have you been?"

Sheng Wang, wiping his face, replied, "Had to see a doctor."

The English listening test was already underway, and Sheng Wang had missed part of it, his luck truly taking a dive.

he invigilator looked at Sheng Wang in shock. "What's happened to you?"

Sheng Wang, trying to stay calm, replied, "My brain's not working properly. Can I go back to my seat?"

The invigilator, caught off guard and unsure whether to be frustrated or concerned, simply nodded. Sheng Wang headed back to his seat.

The morning's events had left him fuming, and he couldn't muster a pretense of composure.

He tossed his school uniform onto the table, grabbed a pen, and dived into the exam paper.

The listening section was a mess. He couldn't make sense of any of it, and the three pages of multiple-choice questions stared back at him, mockingly blank.

Last exam, he managed to score 60 points. This time, he was sinking fast.

"This is a disaster," he muttered inwardly, trying to hold back his frustration.

Sheng Wang decided to tackle the second section first. Each dialogue had a couple of questions tied to it. He started marking repeated words and phrases, hoping to piece together the main points of each conversation. With a bit of luck, guessing based on these patterns might boost his score.

After finishing the last 15 questions this way, he sighed and turned back to the first page, his confidence shaken but not entirely gone.
