Chapter 29: Results
During the monthly holiday, Mingdao High School was unusually lively.
Liza stood downstairs waiting. Kyle walked up, checking his phone. "Sister andy is on her way," he said.
"Do you still have Mr. Martin 's number?" liza asked.
"Yep," Kyle replied with a grin. "he sometimes needs help with grading."
Jiang Tian and Sheng Wang joined them, despite their preference for flying solo. Kyle had arranged a pre-match counseling with mr. martin.
Mr. martin arrived, carrying a plastic bag. "I brought drinks for everyone," he said, handing out cans.
Everyone accepted gratefully, though they looked a bit nervous. Qi Jiahao, braver than the rest, asked, "Teacher, why are you here in mingdao Building today?"
Mr. martin replied, "I'm grading the monthly exams. Papers are from four schools and need cross-grading. I'll be here for the next two days."
Kyle from the Political and Educational Department walked in. martin, spotting him, raised his voice. "You guys are so attentive, coming to see me before the competition. Unlike some leaders, who only care about math and physics. English isn't their priority."
Dave awkwardly responded, "We focus on subjects with high rewards. Math and physics get provincial awards. English... not so much."
Martin retorted, "We're still among the top 40 in the province!"
A teacher nearby added, "division is strict with grading. We're tough too. Everyone's in the same boat."
andy, worried, asked, "Who's grading our papers?"
'' it's kath. '' Mr. martin said with a smirk. "They're tough. Expect some deductions."
Li Yu's face fell. "Great," he muttered.
Martin continued, "mrs. Sarah told me English scores are tough this time. Only a few scored above 110."
At noon, the group headed to the Libertad subway station. Andy suddenly exclaimed, "Look, isn't that Jiang Tian?"
They saw Jiang Tian by the subway entrance, focused on his phone. "Isn't he taking the subway?" he asked.
"Yes," andy pointed out, "this is the subway entrance."
Kyle noticed another familiar figure. "ayun si Sheng Wang."
Sheng Wang approached Jiang Tian, snapping his fingers near his ear. Jiang Tian turned and caught Sheng Wang's hand. They chatted briefly and entered the subway together. Kumaway pa si sheng wang sa kanilang direksyon.
When jr and the others caught up, Sheng Wang greeted them. "You're here too?"
"Yeah, we're heading to the competition," jr explained.
Sheng Wang was puzzled. "Why would I avoid liza?"
Jr hesitated. "Uh, she said to tell you the results will be announced tomorrow."
Sheng Wang chuckled. "I almost forgot about the exam."
Jiang Tian, meanwhile, focused on his phone. Jr 's group lagged behind as Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian boarded the subway.
On the subway, Sheng Wang texted their group chat. "sheng: We're in the carriage. Waiting for you."
Jr group, rushing to catch up, saw Sheng Wang's message and complained about missing the train.
At the exam venue, Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian finished early and mingled outside. The next day, Yang Jing was ready for them.
In the office, martin confronted them. "Did you follow my advice to stay calm and not submit early?"
Jiang Tian muttered, "We tried sir."
Martin , exasperated, flipped through the papers. Jiang Tian scored 115, while Sheng Wang had 110, despite a few mistakes.
"Let's see what the competition results bring," martin said, shaking her head. "You two are lucky you didn't get more deductions."
Sheng Wang nudged Jiang Tian. "tara na. thank you sir."
Yang Jing stopped them, "Wait! Have jr come here."
Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian exchanged glances and then left, knowing they'd face more of Yang Jing's ire later.
As they exited, Sheng Wang whispered to Jiang Tian, "Looks like we dodged a bullet today."
Jiang Tian nodded. "Let's see what happens next."
Their day was far from over, but for now, they enjoyed their small victory and the break before the competition's real challenge.
