Chapter 33: A Tense Morning

On the way to the mingdao Building, brent couldn't stop talking. As usual, he was full of self-importance, sharing his thoughts while Sheng Wang listened with the occasional "um," though his mind was elsewhere. His eyes kept drifting toward Jiang Tian, who was walking calmly beside him.

"When did you meet with Councilor?" Sheng Wang finally asked, unable to hold back his curiosity.

Jiang Tian, ever so confident, simply said, "I didn't."

Brent , walking several meters ahead with his hands behind his back, suddenly turned around, his ears sharp as ever. "You're denying it? So you're saying I'm making things up?" he huffed, glaring at Jiang Tian.

Jiang Tian stopped in his tracks, leaning back slightly to avoid brent intense gaze. "Director, we're the victims here," he reminded gently.

Brent's anger deflated a bit, and he grumbled, "I know, I know. It's just frustrating. But don't think I'm targeting you two."

Sheng Wang, sensing the tension, tried to lighten the mood. "Save some of that frustration for when you catch someone really breaking the rules," he joked, dragging Jiang Tian behind him as a shield.

They reached the third floor, where the atmosphere was heavy with anticipation. Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian exchanged glances before stepping into the office behind brent .

Inside, they found two men by the window. One, greeted them with a cheerful smile. The other, with short, grey-blue hair, gave a brief nod. "Who's that?" Sheng Wang whispered to Jiang Tian.

"The owner of the barbecue shop," Jiang Tian whispered back, a small smirk on his lips.

Sheng Wang nodded in realization. "Ah, that's Lin. I imagined him differently," he mused quietly.

In the center of the room stood three students in uniform, looking nervous. Brent wasted no time. "hoy!" he barked. "How many times have you been in trouble this month? Do you even reflect on your actions?"

Sheng Wang recognized  Tao as a familiar troublemaker. He glanced at the student standing beside Tao, who looked vaguely familiar. "Who's that in the middle?" he whispered to Jiang Tian again.

Before Jiang Tian could answer, brent interrupted, "It's him! The one who was supposed to get the paper! Do you still think you're a victim?"

Sheng Wang raised his hands in mock surrender. "Sorry, I didn't remember his face," he said, trying to defuse the situation.

Brent chuckled from his spot by the window. "Seems like you've had a rough day, Sheng Wang," he teased.

The atmosphere grew more serious as the conversation shifted to the trouble Zhai Tao had caused. Zhai Tao, ever defiant, tried to push the blame onto another student, Kyle who stood with his head down, clearly ashamed.

"It wasn't me! I barely know these guys!" kyle finally blurted out, his voice shaking with frustration.

"Then why'd you tell me the monthly exam was so important to Sheng Wang?" tao shot back, his tone accusatory.

"I didn't!" kyle insisted, his face turning red with anger.

Director had heard enough. "That's enough! This isn't a performance for my entertainment," he said sternly, silencing the room.

Andy , who had been silent until now, spoke up, her voice calm but filled with disappointment. "Class representative, you knew how important this exam was to Sheng Wang, and yet you let this happen?"

Kyle's shoulders slumped further as andy's words hit him hard. The room fell silent again, the weight of the situation sinking in.

Finally, Director broke the silence. "The damage is done. You've disrupted someone's life, and there's no easy way to make up for it," he said. "The three of you will be penalized, and kyle, you'll lose your spot as class representative."

As he turned to Sheng Wang, Director offered a chance to reclaim his top-three city ranking. "We'll cancel the previous condition. You deserve the recognition, Sheng Wang."

But Sheng Wang shook his head. "I don't want it. If I didn't earn it fairly, I don't need it," he said, his voice firm but calm.

The room was stunned into silence, but Sheng Wang felt a sense of relief. He glanced at Jiang Tian, who gave a small, approving smile. For Sheng Wang, standing by his principles felt much better than any award.
