Chapter 36: Memories and New Beginnings

The morning sun barely peeked through the curtains, casting a gentle glow on the room. Sheng Wang groaned as he stirred, only to realize something felt off. The quilt he had rolled up didn't feel as if it had been tugged away.

"Where's Jiang Tian?" Sheng Wang muttered, rubbing his sleepy eyes and glancing around. The room was empty, and the air conditioner hummed softly.

Just then, the door creaked open, and Jiang Tian walked in, surprised to see Sheng Wang awake so early. "ang aga mong nagising?" he asked, glancing at the wall clock.

"It's only 6 AM," Sheng Wang replied with a hint of grogginess. He attempted to pull the quilt back over him but hesitated, realizing the futility of it.

Jiang Tian, freshly washed and with a cool mint scent, picked up his school uniform from the foot of the bed. "Did you really sleep through everything? You were pretty out of it last night."

Sheng Wang yawned and rubbed his face. "I might've had a bit too much to drink. Felt like I was glued to the bed."

Jiang Tian chuckled. "You were practically cemented to it. But it's fine; I slept elsewhere."

Sheng Wang squinted at the unruffled half of the bed. " saan ka pala natulog kagabi?"

Jiang Tian shrugged, heading to the window to gather his schoolbag. "Doesn't matter. Just get ready and let's have breakfast."

As Sheng Wang changed clothes and brushed his teeth, he mused over his old dormitory antics, remembering the early-morning pranks he and his roommates had played on each other. It was all in good fun, he thought.

Arriving at school, Sheng Wang noticed a flurry of activity. ben, ever the enthusiastic one, greeted him with a smirk. "Brother Sheng, you've been changing your facebook profile a lot lately!"

"Do you have a point?" Sheng Wang asked, trying to sound disinterested.

Ben grinned. "Just keeping tabs. You know, to admire the view."

"Go away," Sheng Wang said, rolling his eyes.

The morning physics class began with Dave announcing an upcoming election, much to everyone's interest. Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian exchanged glances as dave continued, making it clear that some students were giving up their spots to let others have a chance.

When dave declared that Liza and ben would fill the remaining top spots, the class erupted in applause. ben , ever the showman, thanked everyone with a dramatic flair, making Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian chuckle.

Later, at lunch, Old Man Ding seemed unusually distracted, his mood sour despite the warm company. Sheng Wang noticed but couldn't quite figure out what was wrong.

After lunch, Sheng Wang slipped away from school, his curiosity piqued by Old Man Ding's strange behavior. As he approached the old man's house, he nearly collided with a tall, well-dressed man muttering something about being an "old stubborn."

"Hey, watch it!" Sheng Wang called out as the man walked away, shaking his head.

Entering Old Man's courtyard, Sheng Wang found him sitting by the bedroom door, engrossed in an old photo album.

"Grandpa?" Sheng Wang asked gently.

Old Man looked up, startled. "Oh, ikaw pala. Didn't expect you this early."

"ano po yang tinitignan niyo?" Sheng Wang inquired, peering at the photos.

Old Man sighed, pointing to a set of old pictures. "These are from when Jiang Tian was a child. His father, si Philip at si jiang tian."

Sheng Wang examined the photos, noting the resemblance between the little boy in the pictures and Jiang Tian. "This one looks like Jiang Tian," he said.

Old Man Ding nodded. "Yes, that's him. Gwapong bata diba? Mana sa tatay na gwapo din. Marahil nakalimutan na ito ni jiang tian His father was always busy, and Jiang Tian spent much of his childhood here with me. His grandmother was too ill to care for him properly."

Sheng Wang listened intently as Old Man continued, recounting the story of how Jiang Tian had grown up feeling abandoned, but always finding solace in the kindness of those around him.

As Old Man spoke, Sheng Wang realized just how much Jiang Tian had endured. The stories of his past, filled with hardships and small acts of kindness, painted a vivid picture of the person he had become.

By the end of their conversation, Sheng Wang felt a deeper appreciation for Jiang Tian and the strength he had shown through his struggles. The old man's stories highlighted the importance of friendship and understanding, reaffirming the bond between Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian.

With a newfound respect and understanding, Sheng Wang left Old Man' s house, ready to face the day with a stronger sense of camaraderie and support.
