A Certain Someone: Chapter 19 - Really Fragrant
In high school English class, there are two types of students: those who excel at grammar and those who rely on their "sense of language." Mrs.Sarah, the English teacher, could tell who was who just by looking at their papers. Jiang Tian and andy were the grammar experts, while Sheng Wang was a rare breed with a language instinct.
Today, the students in Class A were outside the classroom, locked out by andy for talking too much. They sprawled out in the hallway, working on their English practice papers under the blazing sun.
"Hey, do you have a tissue?" ben asked a girl, wiping his sweat.
The girl handed him a tissue and asked, "Do you know when we can go back in?"
Ben shrugged. "Not sure. Probably when the teacher is done with her lecture."
As they grumbled and completed their assignments, some students boasted about their speed. "Who can be faster than me?" one boy bragged.
Ben turned to see Jiang Tian standing nearby, silently working. "Hey, is it true that Jiang Tian is as fast as they say?"
" Oo naman," Sheng Wang said, glancing at Jiang Tian's paper. Despite the heat and the noise, Jiang Tian remained focused, his expression unreadable.
Ben and others continued their chatter. "Did you know kyle used to struggle with these papers?" Ben laughed. "When he first joined our class, he was so slow. Now he's as fast as anyone!"
Sheng Wang, meanwhile, was flipping through his own paper with ease. He was finishing questions at an impressive speed, and Ben couldn't believe it. "You've got to be kidding me. How are you so quick?"
Sheng Wang shrugged. "Just practice. I memorize tricky sentences and use that to speed up."
The conversation turned to a new topic: the city's three best student spots, which were up for grabs. The selection process was based on grades, class committee choice, and overall progress. Everyone wanted a shot at it, and the competition was heating up.
After the class ended, students from various classes gathered outside to watch the spectacle. Teachers and students a like enjoyed the show, with old Wu even making a few appearances just for fun.
As the crowd dissipated, Sheng Wang noticed Jiang Tian standing alone, still focused on his paper. Sheng Wang felt a pang of regret. He had acted arrogantly earlier, but now he wanted to make amends.
"Jiang Tian," Sheng Wang said hesitantly, "I...I'm sorry for how I acted. I was just embarrassed."
Jiang Tian looked up, his expression softening. "It's fine. We all have our moments."
Sheng Wang, feeling a bit bolder, sent Jiang Tian a message: "I was wrong. Let's forget about last night, okay?"
Jiang Tian's reply came swiftly: "Then you continue to lose your memory."
Sheng Wang chuckled and texted back: "How about we forget the bad stuff and remember the good?"
Jiang Tian sent a series of funny videos in response, each one more embarrassing than the last. Sheng Wang laughed so hard he nearly dropped his phone.
When class started again, Sheng Wang tried to focus but couldn't help smiling at the memory of Jiang Tian's videos. He looked back and saw Jiang Tian, who was also smiling faintly.
As the class progressed, Sheng Wang realized he had learned something valuable: sometimes, the best way to connect with someone is by being sincere and letting go of pride.
And so, amid the typical school chaos and competition, two students found a way to understand each other a bit better, thanks to a few funny videos and a shared sense of humor.
